Otherwise I think I'd go for something old he wouldn't necessarily be familiar with, although iirc he's much better read in eastern thought than one would expect.

Maybe contemporary East Asian Marxism. Reading the literature wouldn't necessarily help him understand the intersection of culture, Confucianism and Marxism that dominates China and Vietnam.

Moreover, I'm not sure a week would be enough to wrap one's head aid the sheer volume of paradigms that have shifted.

No one had heard of Hitler, Stalin or Mao. Trying to understand 21st century philosophy outside of its historical context would be a non-trivial undertaking to absorb.

Edit: what about Kierkegaard? Technically they don't predate his existence, but Nietzsche never got to read him. Loophole?
