After this election, I'm convinced the only way democracy will survive is if Russia is permanently stripped of its great power status. I hope I live long enough to see that pustule of a country go up in flames like Yugoslavia.

Amen. They're a globally malevolent, destabilizing force. All of the constituent republics should be split off and the Russian core isolated.

Our next president should try and work with China to hobble Russia, like we did during the Cold War. While the Chinese are also dictatorial, they don't try and export their ideology the way Russia does. Let the Chinese have Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan); the less influence Russia has in the world, the better. Better yet, let's recognize China's claims on Vladivostok. We can pit two of our most powerful geopolitical rivals against each other, forcing Putin to take resources out of Eastern Europe and Central Asia and forcing Xi to take resources out of the South China Sea.
That's an idea. China is willing to do business and to compromise. Russia isn't.
I think we could cut a grand bargain with China in which we recognize Central Asia as a Chinese sphere of influence in exchange for China dropping its claims to the South China Sea. Part of me wants to support rebels in Chechnya and Dagestan to try and keep Russia busy in the Caucasus, but doing so would be risky in the long-term in light of the fact most rebel groups in the Caucasus are Jihadis.

If tacit support for any separatist republics was recognized along with a propaganda/hacking retaliation campaign, they could be in deep shit.

They already believe we do that shit, anyway: I say go for it. Let's make Russia bleed, like we did in Afghanistan.

Frankly, I'd like to put both powers back in their respective bottles.

I'm willing to work with China to screw over Russia.
At least right now, China stays in its own lane.
That alone makes them better than Russia.
I mean, we tried that once by teaming up with Russia to screw over Germany. It worked temporarily, but ended up backfiring

China isn't obsessed with world domination like Russia under Putin/Dugin is, though.

It's not that. China is plenty ambitious. It's more that China exerting control over Southeast Asia is less bad for us than Russia exerting control over Eastern Europe. The former is kind of a downer, while the latter is a destabilizing force in a region that produced the two bloodiest wars in history. China is also committed to achieving its goals through economic growth and the power that comes with it, while Russia is happy to tank its economy and achieve its goals primarily through military means.
China seems committed to a "peaceful rise," whereas Russia is willing to risk plunging the world into nuclear hellfire to achieve its geopolitical goals.

China stole secrets from us, though.
Idk, the only plus side I see to the GOP being in control of the Senate & the Whitehouse, because let's face it, Pence is running the show, is that they're fucking war hawks & profiteers & fighting Russia in the Baltics seems like a good idea right about now.
Pence is itching for a war with Iran & Russia.

To paraphrase Winston Churchill: If Putin invaded Hell, I'd be willing to give the devil his fair shake.
I'd rather have Pence in charge than Trump, if only because I worry about Trump being a Potemkin Candidate. Plus, I think Pence would be easier to beat in 2020 than Trump.

What's worse than Russia is the politically tinged domestic FBI that knew about the leaks and their potential to hurt democratic turnout, but sandbagged Hillary anyway with a fake investigation announcement on a partisan basis. This is a domestic security apparatus indirectly conspiring with a foreign nation.

Yup. They're a failed gas station state masquerading as a country. Their country has had a rich and great history but it's pretty much gone to shit with the USSR and now Putin. I await the day he kicks it. I will celebrate. Many people will.
He has made their country a destabilizing force in the world. And, really, outside of major cities it's a third-world shit-hole. I can't imagine anyone would want to live there. But the funny part is, I know a lot of Russian immigrants who deep-throat Putin and Russia on the daily. Anything that goes against Dear Leader and Russia #1 they react with blind rage. Calling us brainwashed. Calling the US and the West a shit-hole; a joke. They watch Russian television, Russian news. They're totally in their bubble of propaganda.
Strong-man Putin has, apparently, made them proud of their country.
I'm just like....k but why did you come here then? Go back to Russia. Door is open. No one is keeping you here.
Fuck Russia today. Fuck Russia tomorrow. Fuck Russia forever.

It would be hard to balkanize a nation like Russia due to the fact that they have basically wiped out previous ethnic groups and replaced them with Russians.
"Russia core" demographically includes all of Siberia at this point, only some places in the Caucasus, Eastern Siberia and Tatarstan have really strong minority presence.

My ideal scenario would be as follows.
Sinosphere: PRC, DPRK, Central Asia, Pakistan
Indosphere: India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives
ASEAN: Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, etc.
Turko-Iranian Sphere: Caucasus, Levant, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan
Gulf States: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, U.A.E., etc.
Eurosphere: All of Continental Europe, plus Britain, Cyprus, Malta, Israel, Ukraine, Belarus
Pan-American Union: All of the Americas (I imagine an tripartite pact made up of the U.S., Mexico and Brazil leading the way), plus Japan, the ROK and Oceania
African Union: A neutral bloc made up of nations who do business with each of the major blocs
Russia would be completely cut out of the loop, unable to expand its influence beyond its own borders, as the "near abroad" would be divided between China, Turkey/Iran and Europe.

My big fear: trump is going to simultaneously suck Putins cock while alienating the Chinese, making them an unnecessary enemy. I swear to god if he gets us into some kind of conflict with China over some stupid shit...I'm not fighting.
I think if that were to happen, someone would try and take him out. Besides, I think he'll be gone and replaced with Pence about halfway through his term, if not slightly sooner. If the congressional investigation into Russia turns up any evidence of foul play (or any of the other investigations that are bound to happen sooner or later), the GOP will drop him like a hot potato to try and save face. It's a long shot, I know, but Trump getting elected in the first place was a long shot, too.

Arranging for the great fall of Russia would be a great idea, and will go just as excellently as overthrowing Iraq's leadership went. Lets do it!

Who said anything about overthrowing Russia's government? We just need to start containing the bastards and treating them as a threat, like we did during the Cold War.
