Girlfriend in hospital overseas, best place to sell PC? (self.pcmasterrace)

Hey guys, my girlfriend was involved in a bad car accident, I'm absolutely lost as I currently don't have enough to purchase a plane ticket.

I'm looking to sell my PC ASAP, but other than ebay I don't know where to put it.

It's a 3770K, Sabertooth Z77 with 16GB of RAM, I just got an RX480 but it I have a 390X as well.
2 monitors, RODE NT-USB microphone, also will come with a Logitech G29 steering wheel.

I know this probably isn't the best place but I'm borderline desperate, I've been out of work for a little while and this couldn't have happened at a worse time.

If anyone is wanting to check the validity of things then I only know that the accident happened on 112 in Long Island on the Friday that's just gone.

We've already covered ebay, so here are some other options:

  • A pawn shop. You could potentially buy it back too. But, it depends on the place, and you'll get less than you would if you sold it...but right away.
  • Craigslist - Pretty self explanatory.
  • Local facebook group - Apparently these exist.
  • /r/hardwareswap

I'll also put this out there, credit card. Don't normally suggest putting expenses you can't pay off right away on one, but, depending on your interest rates etc, it could be the best solution, assuming you have any sort of income to pay off the payments.

I would say around £90 (which covers emergency passport) as it would also come with a shock mount, was looking to sell this as an entire system.

I would throw in the RODE PSA1 but the spring came loose.

I know it'll be easier to sell as an entire system, but if you sold individual parts (like the steering wheel, the mic, a monitor) but kept the PC itself as a "package" deal (i.e. no selling the rx480 to one guy and the RAM to another) then you could probably get a little more cash, and some of it quicker.

I'm personally interested in the steering wheel. PM me if you'd be willing to sell it separately.

I live on Route 112 (Suffolk County) and it can get pretty crazy. She's either at Stony Brook University or Mather Hospital. Stony Brook is world known. Hope she is OK OP.

Take the 480 out and put the 390x in before selling since you can sell the 480 on it's own for a quiet a bit and the 390x will perform better in game.

I would try locally selling first, on hardware swap you will have to wait on money to clear paypal or whatever method you use, plus shipping is involved(unless you find someone there who happens to be local). Facebook, Craigslist, 5Mile, etc are the best places for local transactions. Make sure you meet in a very safe place, like the parking lot of a police station, you have some expensive equipment with you. Best of luck to you.

For the PC itself with the 390X, I would be asking for £650, I know I could get more for it but that covers a plane ticket and that's really all I care about right now.

If you could give us a link to a list of what prices you have in mind, I might be interested in some of this stuff, especially seems as you are located in the UK Best of luck to your SO in getting better. Car crashes are scary shit.

For the system itself I need to be looking at £650, it wouldn't include the SSDs.

I would say everything as a whole, monitors, microphone and peripherals (Logitech G29, Corsair K95 keyboard, Roccat Tyon White, 360 and PS4 controller). would be £800.

I would part with the monitors for £80 each, the microphone NT-USB with shock mount £80 again. £120 for the Logitech G29.

Craigslist/Ebay or r/hardwareswap. Maybe post it on facebook? There are local groups that deal with trading all sorts of things. I hope both of you make it out okay.

Does your girlfriend share your citizenship? If so, I would contact your embassy immediately.

Where are her parents in all of this?

Edit: Keep in mind if you have no legal relationship to her, you may find yourself stonewalled at every hospital lobby in the area while searching for her.

Who notified you of the accident?

No, she doesn't share citizenship, she's American and I'm British.
Her parents are no longer around, she notified me that she got into an accident, despite the airbag messing her up pretty badly.
She's been in and out of conciousness although she picked up a bit today, she's still not in the clear as I spoke to the nurse this morning.

I wouldnt normally recommend this but have you tried a payday loan. They are always a bad idea but in this case, you clearly need to raise instant cash and get out there. Ebay may take time, especially with releasing the funds to you and theres no guarantee of sale.

If you can, first thing tomorrow, find your local credit union, they may offer a payday loan at 1-2% interest, meaning you will pay a few pound on top.

Edit - Ive assumed you are in the UK and you may well be elsewhere.

I am indeed in the UK, I haven't looked all that much into pay day loans or anything through a credit union. Do you have any experience with those?

I do.

Credit union is a good idea, but payday loan is very much a bad idea.

If you can't get a credit union to help you I'd go with the pawn shop. Doesn't have to be your PC. Could be jewelry, a nice TV, anything with intrinsic value really, and as others have said, if you get home and get the money quick enough afterwards you could end up repaying the pawn shop and getting your stuff back.

I'd try the credit union first tho.
