Test drives and next steps

Hi guys,

We have great news for you! And we can tell you the dates for the test rides.

Prototype

We are proud to announce that we have chosen Roding Automobile GmbH as our prototype development partner. It was not an easy decision as we had 10 offers from potential partners to choose from. In the end we went for Roding as their team is incredibly agile and motivated but also because they have tremendous knowledge in the field of automobile development.

The project started this week, where we set the general conditions as well as first details about the development. The atmosphere was high-spirited and motivated. In short: We are very excited regarding the upcoming months.

Schedule and test ride

The great thing is that we will be able to stay on schedule as planned. We plan to release the Sion July 2017. We will do our best that this won’t change. Please be considerate in case we do need to delay a bit. It is always possible to run in to unpredictable challenges.

After the big release event here in Munich we start offering test rides for all crowdfunding backers immediately. The first thing will be an exclusive test ride event here in Munich for all backers with an amount of 2000€ and up. Afterwards we will do a big test ride tour through all German speaking countries in Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), followed by the rest of Europe and North America.

We will give you more details throughout the upcoming months.

Fast charging

Beginning of November we did an online survey regarding the Sion’s charging capacity und the result was pretty representative.

We asked you:

What charging capacity should the Sion have?

  • CCS 50kW + Typ2 22kW (three-phase)
  • CCS 50kW + Typ2 7,3kW (one-phase)

Almost 90% of you voted for a three-phase fast charge, while many of you mentioned that 11kW are completely enough. Now we will check the cost difference between 11kW and 22kW and then decide which charging capacity we’ll supply the Sion with.

For those of you not familiar with this technical topic: CCS is a type of plug for fast charging aimed at long distances. For lower charging capacities the type 2 plug is commonly used, especially in city centers. By combining both plug types, you can access (almost) all charging stations with the Sion.

We were overwhelmed with the high amount of survey participants and we will be glad to involve you in future decisions.

In the upcoming weeks we will move once more, as our current office is too small – yet again 😉

Write us an email at: talents@sonomotors.com

Please excuse us if you won’t hear anything from us for a while. We are busy up to our ears and sometimes we just don’t get the chance to keep you informed. After all, our most important goal is to keep our promise and present the Sion to you in July of 2017, ready to be taken for a ride.

Enough from us, we’re getting back to work!
The Sono Team
