Rooney: To do it at such a massive club like Manchester United, I am hugely honoured and it is really proud moment for me. It was not something I could have imagined. You don't think that far ahead, but I have been at this club a long time, it is a huge part of my life and it is an honour to be up there alongside Sir Bobby. You want to do records in front of your home fans and we have got two home games coming up and hopefully I can get the next one in one of those

Mourinho - On the Game: I am happy because it was a professional job from minute one. We knew Reading could create difficulties, especially if you allow them to settle in the game. It is also good for me to see some of the players that are not starting in many games - they are good physically and I can count on them for the rest of the season.

Mourinho - On Rooney's achievement: A more special day will arrive. It was great but I want one more goal. He is an amazing guy in the group and we all want him to do that. To have Wayne as the top scorer in a club like this is magnificent for him.

Stam - It is certainly a lesson for my team. You have got to start aggressively against a team like this, otherwise they will make you pay. We started better in the second half possession-wise, but we do not create many chances

Some Thoughts

  • Rooney equals Charlton! Regardless of my personal feelings towards the man, that is a tremendous achievement. To hit 249 goals for us is incredible and you can watch all his goals here thanks to /u/bloomytue. Alternatively here is a quick info-graphic to give you some information on those goals

  • Our 8 wins in a row is our best run since 2009 and Mourinho's best run with an English team since 2006.

  • Martial seems to be building in confidence and is gliding past players again like he did last season, tremendous time of the season for him to start solving the issue of who should play at left wing.

  • Rashford gave another reminder of the fact his future lies up front - constant runs dragging the defence out of shape was rewarded by 2 goals (and should probably have had a few more too).I have no issue with him coming on at left wing with 20-30 minutes left to stretch the opposition a little more and run at tired legs but I'd love him to be given the chance to start up top more often.

  • Rojo's injury will hopefully not prove to be a serious one given Bailly's absence at AFCON but will give Smalling a few more games to make his case at CB.

The team going forward has to be build around Pogba, but also Martial and Rashford.

I was very impressed by Stam's English. Obviously the Dutch tend to have a good command of the language but he sounds like a northerner.

Some outstanding football at times during the game, incredible passing and fantastic movement and I really enjoyed watching us. Al-Habsi made a big error on the 4th goal but he also made a number of great saves to keep the score resembling a football game rather than a cricket game.

Hull next and we have Ibra, Pogba, Mkhi, De Gea, Herrera etc to come back into the team which is pretty exciting to see, then we have the second big test of our current good form in Liverpool.

Looking forward to the games over the next week and hopefully we're sat here with 10 wins by the end of it all.

Reading play really good footy, definitely one to watch out for if they get promoted. Big respect to Stam for coming to Old Trafford and not parking the bus. Minus the first collapse they were decent.

I don't know much about Reading this season but from what I heard Stam is doing wonders. Hope to see them in the PL next season.

pretty good depth as we made a lot of changes and still looked totally in control. Fully expected a fairly easy win as Reading have been leaking goals a lot. Onto the next game now!

It's been quite a while since I've actually felt confident about winning games and enjoy the games themselves. Damn does it feel good...long may it continue.

An important game vs Liverpool next week. If we win that one, could be a massive boost for a title contention.

I was at the game, pogba was warming up but also interacting and joking with the south stand fans which was good to see.

Fellaini getting his name chanted from the Stretford end after having a great game was also good to see. After hearing this chant he was tracking back when Reading had the ball and really tried to give 100%.

Rashford chased down every off chance and so the 4th goal was deserved for his hard work.

There was a real buzz about how fast Fosu-Mensah is and Bastian played a lovely ball forward that Rooney couldn't bring down and control which would have been a fairy tale goal. Assist from the outsider for the record breaking goal.

There is a real squad depth for cup games and league games which is good to see, everyone seems focused on taking it 1 game at a time. Really great game.

Rooney has been pretty quality since he was dropped! He's a great rotation option now.

Seems to be pretty happy with his new role, probably feels a lot less pressure and can enjoy the games he plays a lot more

I'm starting to get really worried about our dependence on Carrick. There just aren't that many realistic targets to replace him next year. Kroos won't leave Madrid as they're the best team in the world atm. Thiago is finally doing fantastically at Bayern (Cheers Moyesy) and this Weigl fella almost seems like it's a meme to bring him up all the time. Is he really good enough, because for me, we can't buy 'potential' in that position, he has to be able to come in and perform straight away or we will really suffer.

Perhaps Saul could be the player we look for from Atletico rather than Griezmann?

Fellini was actually quite ok.

Rooney lookes great, touches and passes were perfect. Finish for the goal was impressive

Martial was Henry like, unplayable.

Rashford looked a little agitated after his first miss but composed himself.

Young was imo a far better threat from the right back position than valencia but really didn't look sound defensively. How I wish we could teach valencia could cross like him.

This is might be unpopular but mata sucks soooooo much. His shooting is poor, he can't run, never seen him make a great through ball. I really really don't like him as a winger and blind as a defender.

Also was soooooo happy to see a Jones and Smalling defense,my 2013 dream is coming true.Hope Rojo is ok though.
