My Ukrainian wife confirms that it's weirdly phrased.

[–]Exepony 343 ポイント344 ポイント  (31子コメント)

It's not weirdly phrased, it's just wrong. "To make of America great! (the interjection, not the adjective) again", to put it literally. It's not even Google Translate bad, either someone did this on purpose or they just opened the dictionary, picked the first translation of each word, then picked a form at random for each of them and decided they were done.

Also we did Brexit.

A very broken translation that reads as make (in an incorrect form) Americas (or America's, whichever fits the context better) great (As in emotionaly) again (the only properly used word).

Yeah, it looks like something worse than Bing translated it.

[–]sam__izdat 236 ポイント237 ポイント  (14子コメント)

the closest literal translation I can think of is:

"to do for americas really once more"

edit - I mean, it's kind of a political idiom anyway, but for anyone making Russian hats with vaguely proto fascist sounding slogans, it should be something like:

"сделаем (i.e. 'we shall make') америку великой (i.e. 'great' as in 'mighty') опять"

The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. [–]Sombrero365 138 ポイント139 ポイント  (110子コメント)

It's more like being silly.

Trolling is named after the fishing thing. It's trying to bait a reaction out of people.

While he might be trying to bait a reaction out of trump, it's more just him making a statement to his twitter followers.

[–]teachhikelearn 21 ポイント22 ポイント  (3子コメント)

As a fisher, who has done a lot of trolling in my life, I have never connected the fact that online trolling is called that because of the fishing aspect of it.

Trump is especially attuned to Baldwin now. He's too insecure not to specifically follow his haters and critics. Baldwin is everything Trump hates about upper class, liberal NYC, and Baldwin has the national platform to make sure Trump receives every single joke, tweet, and troll bait publicized.

You can't call a war-mongering, hegemony-projecting, corporate-loving, pro-state-security, ultra-capitalist "The Left". (Hilary Clinton, for those who didn't get it). By all political measures worth half a grain of salt the current Democrats of the United States are all projecting significantly right wing policies. The farthest "left" individual in american politics worth mentioning is probably Bernie Sanders and by all international comparisons he is by-and-far a centrist, not even a leftist.

I've never understood this criticism. Trump's point has been that the economic policies of the U.S. have ceded advantages to other nations. Be it the asymmetry of auto imports/exports with Japan, China's extreme protectionism including higher tariffs than we impose--this is not opposition to free trade, but to a demonstrably uneven playing field.

For Trump to exploit this uneven playing field while it remains uneven is... logical.

[–]Suffuri 223 ポイント224 ポイント  (232子コメント)

[–]CraigKostelecky 328 ポイント329 ポイント  (194子コメント)

[–]Roseking 186 ポイント187 ポイント  (82子コメント)

It started between Jon Stewert and Trump.

On the Daily Show Jon called Trump Fuckface von Clownstick. Becuase you know, he runs a comedy show and Trump was being an ass about the birther shit.

So Trump starts attacking John over changing his last name from Leibowitz to Stewart for some reason.

This was in 2013. Cut to 2016 and now John Oliver made fun of Trump for his family name having been Drumpf as a sort of callback/revenge for Trump shitting on Stewert.

[–]Jess_than_three 50 ポイント51 ポイント  (8子コメント)

I never understood why it was an insult either. It's not like Trump himself changed anything. He was born that way. That's assuming those rumors about his father being an orangutan are false.

Because Oliver was responding to Trump's bullshit about John Stewart not wanting to embrace his heritage.

Context, you guys.

People think it's an insult to call him by his original name spelling. Why a European spelling of a name is an insult is beyond me. These people must be xenophobes.

[–]KenLives 18 ポイント19 ポイント  (5子コメント)

A lot of people who emigrated to America changed their names to sound less "ethnic" due to rampant xenophobia. My family did it too. Removed the "O'" prefix from my last name to sound less Irish.

Meanwhile, liberals who claim to oppose xenophobia are mocking Trump for his ancestors changing their last name due to xenophobia.

"Snovo" should be after "sdelat" to sound more natural and un-translated.
