Confusion about TFM's role (self.reddevils)

I remember he was signed as a central defender but his role seems to have evolved over time. He's played at right back and more recently, at central midfield. I've always seen him as a defensive player but I was surprised that he was given a sort of box-to-box role in this game. What role does he usually play for the team, and where is he most comfortable? I haven't seen much of him so I really can't tell.

I think that anywhere but a box-to-box midfielder would be a waste of his qualities.

When he played for the youth teams he played as a defensive mid, center back and left back. He's generally a defensive minded player.

He has played for the first team for less than a year, it will take some more game time to properly define his role. In saying that United have always thrived with players who could fill multiple roles such as John O Shea, Michael Carrick etc.

It would be nothing new to us to have a player who filled a variety of roles.

He should end up in central midfield. It's not uncommon to have youth players slot in at fullback early on to get experience in the first team. They are allotted more space in those areas. Are given opportunities to get forward on the ball. They normally have a few outlets in the pass and are afforded more cover more often than not; marginalizing most errors.

Everyone was whinging that Young started over him at RB. He doesn't want to play there, he himself has said he wants to be a CDM, I believe that I heard somewhere online that part of the holdup with his new contract was the fact that he wanted to be assured he'd be used in midfield.
