About this project
From the original creator of Forge Solid:
99% Copper & 95% Tungsten Pyramids
"Good Evening Jaime, This is a fantastic project! Seriously something I've been wanting for a while..." - Erik L.
"...I starred this project earlier, but put it into the category "nice to have, but do I really NEED it". Just reassigned it to %#$!, MUST have. Keep up the good work, glad to be onboard." -Tim J.
"Awesome project! Simple and abstract. Love it." - Angie R.
"...I want the 1" for myself and the little ones [mini cubes] will be stocking stuffers for my two little ones (both will be future engineers :-)" - Greg
"Great project, less is more in this case." - Michael O.
The gorgeous geometric shape: A Pyramid
Pyramids are a stunning geometric shape. The shape of a pyramid allows weight to be distributed evenly throughout the structure, which is why we created a Copper & Tungsten version. One KILO of Tungsten, in a pyramid shape, is a mere 2.5" in size!
AN OPTICAL ILLUSION:
Pyramids are not only geometrically beautiful, but also an optical illusion in any setting. Our pictures are not doctored (logo only added). When we created our first batch we were shocked at the lack of shadows the Pyramid casts on a tabletop, desk, or solid surface.
Why do you need a ImpactMetal Pyramid?
Because it's f$@!%ing awesome!
Why is copper awesome?
- It's Oligodynamic, which means it naturally kills germs on contact.
- We each have about 2mg of copper in our body, without which we could not survive.
- It's dense - between lead and steel in density
- Along with gold, the only non-greyish pure metal
- Takes on its own unique color over time and can be brought back to it's original brilliancy with baking soda and water.
Why Tungsten?
- 70% more dense than lead
- Denser than Uranium
- Nearly impossible to melt
- 4x harder than Titanium
- 19x denser than water
Tungsten has the highest melting point of any element. In fact, you can't easily build a container to melt it. You have to resort to expensive powder compression methods to form it.
Tungsten is an extremely rare element (only 100 parts per billion in the earth's crust).
The density!
Copper and Tungsten are incredibly dense metals. When you pair the two, the Tungsten is so heavy for such a small package. The KILO Copper Pyramid is 3" in size, where the Tungsten KILO is 2.5"!
Below is an example of a 1" Tungsten cube against a set of kids wood blocks:
How is it made?
Each ImpactMetal Pyramid is made from a intricate machining process to deliver a perfect edge to edge finish without sacrificing geometric symmetry. They each start from a mold which only provides a +/- 0.02mm tolerance. Then, each Pyramid is put through a hand measured test and refined through a mill. Once the Pyramid is perfect in dimension, they are finished to your preferred look (matte or polished). Once finished, they get a coating to protect the raw material from the elements and tarnish (or patina).

What our fans have to say:
“This makes no sense, has no practical use whatsoever. Pledged for 2.” -- Ian H.
"This tungsten cube is a great example of what we call a "structure" in the coaching profession -- something that reminds us to bring focus and attention to positive changes we are seeking to make. Be a positive deviant and get in on this cool Kickstarter." - Margaret Greenberg, Author of Profit From the Positive, McGraw-Hill Professional
"What a beautiful addition to my Forge Solid Cubes. Can't wait to see the next thing you come up with." -- Susan P.
"Hi there, just wanted to let you know I was a huge fan and backer of the tungsten project, and found this awesome as well. So backing this was a no brainer." -- Mohammad S.
"I backed the tungsten KS project and love it. My wife is copper crazy and will think this is perfect. I hope you are able to get a good polish. Great job on the super speedy funding!!!!!" -- Mike E.
"Excited for your new project! Everyone who sees the cubes from the Forge Solid project loves it. Woohoo!" -- Butch W.
"...and I was a backer of the Forge Solid as well. Thank you for another cool project!" -- John B.
"I backed the cubes and use them at work regularly. I teach at the military EOD (bomb squad) school in the nuclear division. The density of the kilo helps me show the how small 2 lbs of fissile material can be when talking about criticality incidents. I have backed this at the kilo size as well and it looks awesome." -- James H.
"...There has been quite a bit of discussion around the choice of an appropriate centering object to present to the participants. I think this might satisfy most, if not all of the concerns of the group..." - Madeline T.
"...I'm pretty stoked about adding the Forged cube to my desk candy! ..." - Kyle H.
"Thanks for putting this project together -- I was one of the earlier backers and made a pledge immediately when I saw it. Didn't know this disease had a name -- "metal junkie" :) ..." - Tom D.
Who is Impact Metals?
In February 2015 we launched the Kickstarter Forge Solid, which brought Tungsten and Magnesium-lithium cubes of metal. I partnered with Rudy Marsh, founder of Esington and Trance Metals who eventually acquired Forge Solid after we fulfilled our backers and online orders.
Why am I making pyramids?
Why not?! I love metals, the science, but also the aesthetic. During my studies, in architecture, I became fascinated with structural materials and geometry. Looking back at many incredible feats mankind has overcome, the Ancient Pyramids are one of the most beautiful and symmetrically complex shapes. After having the cube in my home I found that I wanted more shapes, but keep it simple and minimal. I took to my manufacturers challenges with varying metals to create a very specific dimensioned pyramid. Thus, the Impact Metal pyramid was born.
After we finished a batch of prototypes, I placed them around my home and found that they pyramid makes such an aesthetic statement. I chose copper because it is one of my favorite metals, second to Tungsten. Copper is one of the only non-grey metals (except gold) and has very unique properties related to healing and meditation. The color is a beautiful orange/gold blend that looks great. The angles are so precise that the pyramid either reflects light from a side or not at all. My family thought there was an illusion because the pyramid doesn't cast a shadow from regular lighting.
The properties of metals are so vast, but the one property everyone has loved is density. You'll get plenty of that with these metal pyramids!

Risks and challenges
The Forge Solid cube project was extremely educational. With over 3500 backers all over the world and over 15,000 cubes sold, I encountered challenges and solved them. Logistics, packaging, customer service, if you can name it then we faced it!
Throughout the Forge Solid campaign, many lessons were learned but our relationships with manufacturers, raw metal suppliers, logistics, and distribution flourished. Even with a plethora of obstacles, we were able to fulfill ALL of our backers.
There are always risks involved, but the biggest one is always the timeline. We were late shipping the bulk of both projects (though we did manage to get many of our early birds on time). Given the development of our pipeline and healthy business relationships, we are confident we will deliver on time which is why we gave ourselves an extra month on delivery. If we do run into manufacturing, logistics or shipping issues, we’ll always keep you updated. We promise to deliver 100%, just as we have on every other project.
I strive to provide the best experience to my backers and I assure you that as a backer, you won't receive anything less than a great service and fantastic product.
