Some things I noticed:

• Thank you Wayne Rooney. Whether good form or bad this season, one thing we can all agree on is he has been an excellent servant to the club.

• Carrick is really incredible.

• Martial has his confidence back. He still is struggling with last-minute tight decision making, but his ability to take players on is back at a high.

• Jones and Rojo have been terrific for us but I can't help but to wish Smalling makes his way back to the starting lineup to stay. His intensity is second-to-none.

• Rashford belongs up top, not on the wing. We are better with Ibra, but one thing to note for sure is that with Rashford, there is a lot more movement up top which also gives a lot more freedom for the midfield to freely rotate into the open spaces Rashford leaves.

Let's not forget here that, as you said, Carrick is 35. As great as he is, we should be taking greater steps to preserve him and extend his longevity, not just for this season, but for his career.

Fellaini made some important interceptions throughout the game and was fairly positive on the ball. His headers made it seem like we were playing on their half of the field for most of the game. His first touch with his head and chest is still miles ahead of his foot which is awkward for a footballer but overall he had a good game.

Such a positive game all around. Good passing, good vision. Everyone making good runs. Damn this felt good.

  • Rooney was really good as well. His goal was kinda lucky (with the knee) but glad he got his 249th goal!
  • Young... We just got advantage of a red card given for a same kind of tackle last game.
  • Romero also went in kinda dangerous looking. I missed proper replays, though.
  • Besides a couple of situations, the referee was the best I've seen in a United game in ages
  • After Rashford missed his open goal chance, he seemed to try too much. Luckily he calmed down. I love his hunger for goals, but to me it seemed me that the missed chances bothered his concentration
  • He deserved his goal at the end, though! And I bet everyone knew he would get it at some point.
  • I think Carrick should've been taken off as soon as they noticed his head was bleeding. Why risk a head injury? Not a doctor, though, so again Einstein reporting in. Atleast the referee brought in the medics as soon as the knock happened.
  • Our performance dropped significantly at sometime 55-65min. Changes were made at 77min.
  • Loved to see Bastian play again! Too bad he didn't have a chance to make a difference.
  • TFM getting to show what he's got! But really late in the game, as well.

The reason why players with head injuries are brought off is due to the huge risks involved with playing with a concussion. Carrick showed no signs of concussion so there was no risk in keeping him on. A 'head injury' that requires a player to come off is from concussion, not from bleeding.

I'm gonna take off the red/white/black glasses again for a sec. Martial was doing lots of things right but our opponents know him by now and cover that inside move well.

Rooney was honestly so-so with lots of missed passes.

Rashford showed for 75 minutes that he's not quite there yet. If you compare him to other strikers (his preferred position), his miss rate is high. He's young though, and I'm sure he'll learn to be a bit more clinical with experience. Don't get me wrong,, I love his drive and speed but if you look at strikers like Van Persie, Cole, Costa, Henry, Zola and the likes who tore up the league, they'd put away huge chances like his away more often.

Agree with you on Carrick. Got 2 people who can play central midfield on the bench, both due for some playing time. Poor choice by Mourinho I think.

Mourinho,, come on man. Up 2-0 at home and a great chance to give Timo and Bastian some real play time. Don't wait until time's almost up.

To round it off, I felt that very few of our players were "there" 100% but I can't say that I blame them when we're 2-0 up and there are more important games on the horizon. Job done, move on.

I'd agree about Rooney but not sure about your other points.

For example, rashford had insane conversion numbers last season. I think he scored 8 goals from 12 shots. I doubt his miss rate is that much higher than other strikers. I thought he had a fantastic game and 2 goals was probably fair reward for his efforts.

For Martial, I thought he went down the outside of his full back well ; and also tested the defence with runs in behind, which he rarely did last season. Also, not sure how well they covered his cutting inside when he basically beat his man every time he took him on.

Finally, on Carrick, I think it was correct to wait until we were 3-0. If we bring in 2 players with limited game time (who did look a bit off the pace in their cameo, particularly Bastion in a defensive sense), and concede so it is 2-1, and the game finishes with a Reading come back, then we have destroyed the winning momentum we worked so hard to build up. Given we wanted to rest Herrera and Pogba, I think it was the right call to keep Carrick on until 3-0.

This probably won't go down well but if Shaw doesn't kick on in the second half of the season i reckon we should be dipping into the market for a new first choice LB. Our backups for that position at the moment just arent cutting it and i feel it's the one position that if either Shaw found form in or we bought someone special it would be like one of the the final pieces in the puzzle.

I really really hope Shaw comes good again but i don't think we can afford to wait another season after this one. I don't want Shaw sold, he has too much potential for that and should be kept no matter what but there's only so long we can wait to plug that hole.

I know its only Reading, but lots of positives. Martial showing consistency again and should start against Hull and Liverpool IMO, starting to work harder defensively too but he has a bit to go in that aspect. Rashford looked brilliant and got back on the scoresheet, Rooney looked good, Fellaini actually played pretty well and overall a good performance.

I know its only Reading, but lots of positives. Martial showing consistency again and should start against Hull and Liverpool IMO, starting to work harder defensively too but he has a bit to go in that aspect.

Rashford looked brilliant and got back on the scoresheet, Rooney looked good, Fellaini actually played pretty well and overall a good performance.

Basti and Fosu didn't get a chance because the game was finished when they came on, but I thought Basti looked brilliant everytime he was on the ball.

They're in 2nd in the championship and have a real shot at promotion. Yes, they will need to improve if they move up to the PL but they will get players if they get promoted. Reading were poor today but they're having as good of a season as they could have possibly hoped for

Great game. Fantastic performance. I think it's more telling that we can make 9 changes and still get such a good and balanced performance.

Martial is hitting his form once again and this team will be ridiculous with him and Mhki in form and Zlatan up front. Definitely a force to reckon with on all competition fronts.

Though it obviously has to be noted it wasn't first class opposition, we played some great football, lovely flowing moves at times. Fantastic to see Martial and Rashford at full steam, and for each to snag a goal or 2. 2017 looking bright lads.

p.s wonderfully dominant dictatorship from Carrick in the middle of the park today. 36 this year and still showing his finesse!

Fantastic game. Didn't really push us too hard. Frustrating that we're still not taking some great opportunities (flashback to some of our draws). Will be interesting to see what kind of team we put out for League Cup Semi Final considering Liverpool are also in that so it might not be so bad if we play full strength squad.
