How much of your own money have you guys put into this?

[–]purpletricycle[S] -1 ポイント0 ポイント  (31子コメント)

We've each put in enough money to stay under the FEC guidelines for filing, which is 1000$ so that we didn't prompt other requirements. We were at this stage until we were able to fundraise to file for proper representation that would protect us and the community legally.

So you personally dropped $1000?

We split up the initial amount between the 3 initial people working on this (the donor was only recently involved, almost all the work was complete around July). I then spent personal time building all the website etc which was voluntarily done and tweaking it to get it smooth for launch.

So you have spent $1000 total, split between three people?

anyone else think it funny how viking got by with this ... he acted like he was not in on it yet ex mods said he wanted to fund it when it was initially brought up. No way mods went behind his back.. they had his blessing and he was most likely in on it

Nahh, viking's legit. He's a very smart guy and I'm a big fan. He's the best one possible to manage the sub and I highly highly highly doubt that he's in on any scams.

wow.. i thought you died. You are one of the ex mods that has good things to say. maybe some mods are misinforming

I've barely talked to him since I left, but I used to skype with viking on a biweekly basis. He's a very smart guy with a lot to contribute. From what I hear, mods who leave dislike that he rules with an iron fist and that he wants organization. I personally like both of those things, but they can require being a dick at times.

2nd or 3rd person I've heard say he's really smart. Want smart, organized fellows running the sub, so good.

the requirements for FEC law state we cannot fundraise more than 1000$ or come under FEC scrutiny, so this is all we could spend until we had a successful launch.

FEC.gov has additional details on the requirements.

So what did the rich guy do, other than offer $333?

[–]purpletricycle[S] 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (17子コメント)

I did not make it clear, he wasn't involved until later when we had enough to hire a retainer for lawyers, which totaled ~12k in cost. He was a big portion is helping hire the independent law firm

[–]LetThereBeWhite 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (16子コメント)

Lawyers cost you 12K just to fill out some paperwork?

Why'd that take more than an hour or two?

[–]purpletricycle[S] 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (12子コメント)

It's the retainer which is sort of like a deposit. It's not easy to find an experience FEC lawyer that isn't already booked by the Dems or Republican PACs, so you put them on retainer so that they guarantee you service and you guarantee them a certain amount of income. Filing for incorporation, filing for 501c4 status, filing for a letter of determination don't come cheap. We consulted many firms independently and this was the going rate for a retainer for a 501c4 with our type of focus.

The paperwork costs a little over a hundred. Knowing how much you can spend, when, how, and where, in compliance with National and State laws across all 50 states (to be applicable), and being able to call upon lawyers at any time necessary costs around 11,900 though.
