5 threads on our front page right now are filled with commenters defending and apologising for "alt-Right" racists. Most of them posting to that sub and are using American slang /political terms. This place used to be the one sub not corrupted by Reddits recent shift but c'mon this is awful.

I'm not one, but staunch conservatism and racism is the norm across the majority of the world. From Africa through Asia and South America, and now, what seems also to be in the North. Western Europe is the exception, not the rule

The North? Please don't pontificate like you have achieved a liberal, racist free society. You haven't, you just haven't had the chance to be tested.

Don't lose sight of the reality that Ireland is a homogeneous nation, where almost EVERYBODY is the same - is it any wonder there is no tensions around issues. The last census confirmed that 85% of the population was White Irish Catholic ffs- how on earth would you expect to understand or predict what kind of Ireland would exist if there was another 'group' that was large enough to have representation let-alone a voice. As it stands, the ''multi-cultural'' ireland consists mostly of a small population of white middle-class Europeans - please don't pretend this qualifies you to proclaim superior civility over other nations with REAL diversity...

I think it's ironic people are trying to tell you are being dismissive of other opinions while being extremely dismissive of your opinion. Doesn't appear like anyone wants to actually have a conversation.

I'd be inclined to agree with you. The thing that's most apparent to me is that while this is or at least was an undeniably left leaning sub. I see more comments and articles that either a) criticise the left in an insulting way and not a productive one or b) talk about how this sub and similar spaces are leftist echo chambers than I see actual pieces of left wing propaganda. I feel like ALMOST all I see on this sub with regards to this subject is criticisms of the left.

I think u/AstroAgama in a different post suggested something is up because posts are getting a lot more comments than the sub is used to. To me, I find the trends of upvoting and downvoting in the comments to be fishy.

Ireland is absolutely subject to the same political swings that the rest of the world is, and is one of the most heavily influenced in all directions from outside sources

My point is to recognise that Ireland is heavily influenced by other nations, I'm not making excuses for anyone or trying to say that any one side is correct. It should be expected that Ireland is no different to anywhere else, we are not special.
