I make sure that I get down in front of the house if it is very late. Walking for 100-200 metres when one doesn't who can sprung up from any direction to show some knifes etc. In whatever vehicle one comes it is relatively more safe to be step or two away from your house or compound.

4 3 scootys, 8 6 guys, 3 2 scootys stop at the entry of the road and provide over-watch. They did this before and their whole ride that night was to look for women to grope. They did this throughout the night, each pair taking a chance while 3 2 pairs providing over watch. Even if a man were to intervene, the 8 6 guys would technically over power that man.
But here's where the important fact lies, the person driving that scooty has been on that road before and is probably a local. Why? Because after watching that video 8 times, the way that driver takes the U-turn just inches before that pothole ridge, that too without his headlight on, hints to the fact that he knows this road. And the best way to know where a pot hole or a speed breaker on a road is, is via repetition.
Edit: The video quality of the CCTV camera is shoddy and I doubt enhancing it will yield results that are enough to get a clear view of the license plates or the scumbags' faces.
One thing cops can do, is to order phone data from that area. A sim card with an active connection, when goes from place A to B, it also talks or so to say pings the tower in that respective area. So even though your GPS is off, the tower captures your data. If police were to order the data from that night, specifically from 2:41 AM to 2:42 AM, and look through that haystack first trying to find the victim's cellphone signal pinging, then they can look for 6 or more additional pings arriving at that certain time frame. The main road was pretty much empty, and the cars going by did not make a stop except for passing by. But the 3 pairs of scooty did wait for a minute, and they should pop up in that haystack. Finding the info on who owns those sims and then referencing them with the RTO to find people that own scootys, you're practically in the ball park of finding those culprits. And even if you catch one, on slap is more than enough for that one scumbag to utter the truth and give away to his accomplices.
Edit 2: Most roads in a city like Bangalore has CCTV cameras at every intersection and red light. These cameras are often of better quality and are specifically designed to spot license plates. Bangalore police can also comb through that entire area's CCTV footage to find three scootys riding in a pack at that period of time.

Though the faces can't be seen in cctv footage but the girl might remember atleast one of the guy's face and identify.
This is too much man, in addition to a number of molestation incidents at Brigade road this one is something else all together. Or its possible that these guys on a number of scooters followed these girls from somewhere and were waiting for the autorikshaw to leave.

There's a ton of evidence in electric form to catch these guys, from cell phone data to traffic signal data. If cops still fail to do so, then it's evident they just aren't bothered to do so.

No, it's an alleyway. The alleyway leads to the main road. The alleyway houses building complexes (residential area). So them circling that area is minimal, but not out of the question.

There is all this coverage about mass molestation on NYE in Bangalore. Media is covering it. There are witnesses. The police has said if someone comes forward they will take action. But in the middle of this, there is really no action at all.
I was on the road on NYE in Bangalore - though at a different location than where this mass molestation happenned. Almost EVERYONE had their phones out and were taking pictures and selfies. If there was mass molestation then how come the media has not published even a single photo of a molestor ??
Once the media publishes a photo, the police can take action. But media has done EVERYTHING other than what will help fix the problem. Threads on rIndia also have done everything, but no one has asked who are these molestors in the first place ? Why dont we shame them on public media so that they dont dare do it again ?

Once the media publishes a photo, the police can take action.

Media has published photos of women and the cops. There is not a single photo of even a single molestor in an event where there were hundreds of people outside with almost everyone having a cellphone outside and clicking pictures.
This video was published by the media itself. But this is not of hte mass molestation event. Even on facebook NO ONE has shared any picture of any mass molestor.
Police has gone on record, and this has been reported by media, that will take action if anyone reports. We can keep doing the circus, but whats the point if no one reports ??

Those photos are in the aftermath of the molestation - which could have been isolated incidences. If there was 'mass molestation', why is there no picture of any molestor. Also it doesnt have to be print media. Anyone can publish the photo on facebook. I dont see a single photo on facebook of a molestor. This video was published by the media itself - which means that if they had any photo they would have absolutely published it.

The photos I saw yesterday and the day before were pretty convincing, but it was media releasing them, taken with media cameras. I don't know why victims have not come forward or why photos of personal accounts have not come forward, or maybe they have, I just don't know that.

What I don't get is that if there was mass molestation and there were hundreds of people and there were hundreds of cameras, why not a single picture of a molestor has emerged.
And not just media, even on facebook none of my bangalore friends has shared ANY picture of any molestor. Either there was no mass molestation, or the media is hiding these people in connivance with the police.

Defending these beasts is untenable, but in Blr on NYE at 2 AM, this is high risk behaviour - rape chances might be lower, but it is almost a guaranteed thing that you will get molested or groped.
None of my friends (girls) do this. Either they go out in a big group (safety in numbers) or we, the guys drop them right at their doorstep, wait till they get inside the gate and then leave.
Given the state of affairs being prudent and minimizing risk is not entirely a bad thing. For instance, even Chicago or NYC, there are no go areas and times, and while in theory it is a shitty thing to have a curfew or no go areas, in reality, going there only puts you at risk. In India, pretty much any time after 1130 PM and pretty much any major urban centre is a no go area for single women.

The sad reality is that if a woman is walking on the streets of Blr after 1100-1130 PM, chances are she is going to have an unpleasant event ranging from rape to verbal assault. This is not being nonchalant (at least not for me), this is being pragmatic. The other sad reality is that these assholes and goons molest everybody from sari clad middleaged aunties in public transport to school girls, and to them a girl returning alone from a pub / night out is like waving a red flag at a bull. These cunts think that such women are by definition loose women and would even up the ante.

the only reason i mentioned my wife and sis was that i saw this video and suddenly panicked. there have been so many instances when either of them have walked back home late at night from office/ college. I fear for their safety every single time i read news like this.
Having said that, that has no bearing on my view that these perpetrators come from a depraved section of society and must be held accountable. but knowing our country and its creaking mechanisms, not sure if that is ever possible. i may sound despondent but i think that's the reality common citizens face.

I want to tell people the seriousness of the problem, there are two serious reason in indian society in terms of dealing with these kind of assaults which are relatively common if you ask single women.
  1. One "justification" from society is, why was she going out late at night, or why was she wearing these clothes, or why was she drinking or why was she alone...
  2. The other is India has the lowest rape assault cases in the world, why are we willifying indian men, people would think India mistreat women always so dont talk about this and make it a big issue.
Unless we remove both the hypocrisy of sexism of the first argument as well as the fake cultural pride in the second argument we will not find solutions to this problem.
India has a serious problem in terms of women's safety, this is nothing new but it is coming out in the open with new technology, more women in workforce and more women venturing out of the house at night. I once saw an incident like this happen, around noon in front of women's college bus stop with cops standing barely 100ft away in chennai(considered relatively safe for women).
The reason for this is not because Indian men treat women badly, it is because law enforcement does not do its work to find these sexual predators. They dont file cases, FIR's are almost never filed for sexual assault incidents like these. This emboldens these sexual predators to go one step further for a bigger sexual crime. Please I urge everyone who reads this, make the filling of FIR a social issue, unless we have cops filling FIR's against crimes we are not going to solve this problem.
Because if the status quo continues in a few years even if you wear Burkha or dont go after dark or go in groups it wont matter, please take this seriously filling FIR for sexual assault and stalking is very important dont push it under the carpet, because the culprit is still roaming around and will ruin someone else's life.

Easy for someone to say when you are not the victim , just for a second try to put yourself in the victim or their relatives place. For sake of argument, lets say the culprits get caught . In our country the judicial process from the point of arrest to final conviction is virtually infinite ( accused can go from lower courts to supreme courts and drag on) and not to mention the process itself is another form of harassment for the victim and her family. My point is if the implementation or inadequacy of the judiciary/law/bureaucracy is to blame to get justice in a timely manner than might as well take advantage of this very judiciary/law/bureaucracy and set an example.
