1976 Jeep Cherokee Chief S
She's a beast and the only reason, THE ONLY REASON, I'm getting rid of it is I need a tow rig and not a toy.
Some details. It has the AMC 360 with an HEI distributor and 4 barrel carburetor that runs fantastic and starts right up with a touch of the gas. Turbo 400 transmission that shifts smoothly and kicks down perfectly. Fluid still perfectly red and previous own says it was rebuilt recently. Cool guy twin stick Novak super 18 dana 18 transfer case (offset front and rear outputs) with teraflex 3.15 super low gears and a fresh fill of lucas 85w140. Originally an awd version so it has the offset dana 44's front and rear loaded with 4.56 gears and a limited slip in the rear. It's sitting on 15x10 steel "d hole" wheels with bolt on strengthening rings and 35" Goodyear mt/r's with a matching spare mounted in the back.
It has a chopped off top that's finished pretty good. Basically moved the rear of the original top to the back of the rear of the driver and passenger part of the cab. Kinda like a k5 or bronco. Total cool factor. One of a kind. Awesome neckbreaking head turner. People wave and give thumbs up at me all the time when I drive it. The stock fender flares are cut and rolled as well. It's also fully caged in the cab but the rear seat doesn't have anything overhead. It has cool guy racing seats and 4 point harnesses. Front and rear seats are covered in a marine vinyl so it's ok in the elements. It has a front prerunner style tube bumper with two 9" HID's and a 12 k winch. The rear also has a prerunner style tube bumper with some d ring mounts and avec 24w LED pods which are bright as hell. It has a fuel tank out of a buick regal that's super flat so it sits up between the frame rails for better clearance. Also has tubular rock sliders.
I drove this to work for like 2 weeks to work with a 40 mile round trip while my car was down and then kept doing so after I got my daily running every other day because it's that fun to drive. It'll do 75 no problem, but with low gears and no OD, the revs are pretty up there.
Has a clean box A title and a copper "historic vehicle" plate with tags good till 2020.
Now all that being said, it's a 76 and it's 40 years old. All those years don't come without issue but for the most part, she's healthy. The stereo cuts I'm and out while out wheelin. And the steering wheel is a 1/4 turn off. The belt makes a squeak when it hits a certain spot. The transfer case leaks a little. It's got a small exhaust leak that goes away when it warms up. It squeaks and rattles when the going gets rough. But all that gives it character.
I'm asking $7k for it but open offers. Like I said, I need a truck not a toy. I'd like to sell by this weekend.
