Well, to speak bluntly and off of the top of my head, this has become too frustrating. A lot is being said regarding my and my roles here, and since I have nothing better to do with my time and mental energy, I want to vent/state what is going on openly.
My role here
For those unfamiliar, I have been a very active behind-the-scenes figure here since the relaunch. I was part of the constitutional convention, wrote the automated systems we use for registry and elections, and have been alongside Nuktuuk as the longest-running moderators. I served, briefly, as Head Moderator, and for a time was on the Judicial Dispute Court. I avoided political and government roles most of the time, but currently am Chief Justice on the supreme court. I've been involved in a lot of various other stuff along the way.
Of course, I cannot do any of these without controversy. Pretty much every action I have taken here has come back to bite me for stupid reasons.
The recall
So there is currently a recall proceeding against me from an unexpected source. Now, he will argue it as he has, but as far as I am concerned, this recall nonsense was retaliation by Justice Dommitor against me. We have had a lot of conflicts in the last few weeks, and I recently called for him to be denounced and barred from serving on the court in a case, and for a reinvestigation of his cases as Justice. He took this very personally, and yes, it was harsh. I believe, however, his retaliation shows an example of why I called for such extreme measures. As an acting Justice, Dommitor stirred up the people against me by looking for some technicality to use against me. We had been arguing and disagreeing on cases and court procedure, when he pulled this stunt.
Now what was a personal vindictive act has become a movement, once again on the shaky ground of a constitutional amendment (which I wrote). The argument is that I currently hold three offices, and one of them is Acting Head Moderator. Now, let's be clear here, the Head Moderator is LePigNexus. Not me. I am not Head Moderator. I am just basically handing elections while LePigNexus is on vacation.
Chief Justice
As for my place on the court, I don't intend to make a career post of it. I intended one term, to clean up some stuff and set an example of how the court could run, and then leave quietly at the end of my term. I found, though, that the court is such a mess that we can't do anything. Until tonight I was working at a means of reorganizing and fixing the court (part of which I put in place last night). Now I am facing threat of recall and temptation/pressure to resign with this work unfinished, these systems not ready to be used.
Likewise, I am being ostracized for my moderation role during the middle of a referendum that has the game on hold.
Community Management
I am just frustrated. Part of moderating something like Democraciv is that it is a matter of community management, but people became so political they decided that managing the community was also democratic and subject to mob rule, that moderation had no authority to ban anyone and made sure to press the issue. We know this is a unique community, and how close the community is, and so we do things a little different from other places. We let people know what is going on with bans. We give warnings before going banhammercrazy. Most places have rules about fighting with moderators, questioning bans (some major places won't even let you discuss them at all), backseat moderating, and the like. Because of the nature of our community, we have not had to enact these kinds of policies. But as community management, this may be the direction we are being pushed into if we cannot moderate properly.
State of the Community
I put a lot of my time, effort, and mental energy here. I have suffered for it. The drama and stupid stuff that goes on here is draining, and that drain is proportional to your involvement here. It's part of the reason why our actual head moderator is away for the moment, he's had the holidays off and still hasn't recovered. We are a good community, but we pass blame off on various things (oh, we couldn't handle the surge! Oh, the constitution isn't perfect! Oh the ministry treats the legislature bad! Oh the legislature treats the ministry bad! We are not using IRV!) while none of these are really to blame. It's a community issue, it's an attitude issue. One that attacks not the politics and government, but the structure and community. So I assure you, a new constitution will not fix these things, no more than anytime eliminating the scapegoat fixes things. We left the game, and made it personal. We left the game, and everyone decided they were in charge. I can't say that enough.
Aimless ramble
But it can be argued, my role in the court is putting moderation back in the game. Unfortunately, I am there because something is broken. I would rather resolve things that are broken in-game in the game itself. My other option would be to do something heavy-handed as moderator. But it appears this approach is not acceptable anymore. I don't know what to do. I have to think on things for awhile.
