This is hilarious and awesome at the same time.

Thanks! We are getting ready to decide the Civ and start campaigning for Mayors, General, etc soon, so there is still plenty of room for community participation

How I picture a typical meeting ending at /r/democraciv

That video is oddly specific and applies WAY to well for me to consider it coincidence.

I love it. Can I be a concerned citizen?

Concerned citizens are the best kind

Ah like the good old democracy games form civfanatics.com :)

Good times

I might be interested. I'm fairly familiar with Civ-based role-play (/r/CBRBattleRoyale, /r/CivHybridGames, /r/CivWorldPowers, all of which I moderate), and this is certainly something different, something unique.

The problem that emerges is time - on top of real life and some intensive redditing, I barely have any time left. But I'll make sure to check this one in the near future. Seems really interesting indeed.

I really hope someone will be making a video of all this properly narrated like a documentary.

I was the least-voted-for candidate and I heartily recommend this project!

I was not and I heartily recommend this project!

This is really great! How does one get involved?

Just visit the subreddit and subscribe! We're always trying to emphasize as much community engagement as possible!

Visit r/democraciv. Read the constitution to get familiar with the basics of how the government works. Then you can read about the Ministers or, in more depth, here or, in even more depth, here. Then you can check out the bills which have been introduced. Very soon we will be voting for the Civ and electing our first Mayors, Generals, etc.

Quick question, how are you documenting the game? I wouldn't mind chipping in with some naration if you wanted someone to do that (Similar to what the Battle Royale does). I usually have a Civ V game going on my channel at all times so it would fit in with that.

Should this be part of the press corp?

That would be awesome. Read the Press Mission Statement/Recruiting Post on the sidebar and send me a message if you are still interested.

So I don't have a computer to really play on ATM but I might want to participate, so would I just join a party and vote on things? I couldn't play at all if it came to that, though

Yes, just check out the Sub and support candidates/officials you like and vote!

Civ 5 is the only Civ (aside from the original and test of time) that I have never played. How do you feel about having an ignorant citizen as part of your democraciv?

The voting and community engagement is mostly about the government. The candidates and governmental officials are the only ones who really need to have Civ V experience. It'd be great to have your voice involved!

Is there a reason why you haven't played Civ V ?

I've never gotten around to it really. Besides, there are other Civs, particularly the "classic" civs. that still hold my attention pretty well. Until quite recently I played Civ II and Alpha Centauri almost exclusively. I still play a game or two of Civ II every year. I played a few Civ III games recently, actually. In my mind Civ IV marks the first major departure from the classic Civ formula that I really adore.

I would say that the lack of unit stacking was the reason I haven't played Civ V, but that is only the reason I didn't buy it right at release. By all accounts it made for a different, but equally good 4x experience.

It might be interesting to release the first turn save so that people can play the game by themselves, and see how the democratic process differs to their own choices.

I'd like to see save files released periodically through the whole game. It would allow for more transparency, allow people to explore in detail what's going on, and let people who disagree with the government's decisions to try doing better.

Heya, is this trying to win the game at all costs? Or is it a case of trying to win it in the way that the people decide? So trying to win without the use of nuclear weapons and trying to kill where possible etc or is it, we want a government and people to decide how best to win the game?

I am personally only voting for candidates that support the use of nuclear weapons against the civs that oppressed my ancestors thousands of years ago.

Totally up to the government and, ultimately, the people who elect it

Can't wait to get involved in this. Just have to finish finals first. I'll be back soon!

If this one proves to be successful, imagine if we have several subs like this in a multiplayer game.

Cool idea! Is there an opposition party, and if so, how will it be incorporated?

We are a bit too early to have defined parties (although there are the seeds of them are forming). I'm sure that they will develop as we get larger and more complex.

So what's the difference to /r/CivGovernment ?

We are focused on making one government to play a game against the AI. If we are successful, we may expand to have multiple Civs controlled by competing governments, but right now or focus is to successfully create one.

r/CivGovernment is trying to have many different governments controlling each Civ in a game, I believe (I'm not involved there).

Can't wait for Marbozir to be elected prime minister, then he switches ideologies to autocracy, fires his cabinet, declares martial law and wins the game, leaning a trail of salty, salty tears behind him :-)

Cool!

Does this mean there needs to be a press conference if someone wants to demolish a road to build a mine?

No, those are up to the Mayors of the city that they effect
