  1. He is going to be a world class keeper for the next 10 years+
  2. He's been through a journey with us from starting off badly and working his way back + 250 games isn't a joke
  3. It would be another emotional string to lock him in :)

Herrera is the obvious other alternative because he's so passionate and is having a stormer of a season - but I just get the feeling he could be replaced in a few years.

Who else? Pogba in a few years?

I see Pogba as the most natural captain. I love Herrera, but I see Pogba as the kind of player others look to when something needs to happen.

De Gea is world class, no doubt, but he hasn't got leadership qualities. He is calm by nature. I am not saying he has the personality of a brick, but he doens't elevate other players either. Herrera on the other hand, is proper captain material, but i agree with you, there are doubts if he is going to stay with us for a long time. He is great, but not irreplaceable, market-wise.

All things considered, i would pick Pogba. Academy kid, i can't see him leaving and has nearly every captain quality Herrera has.

I still think we're all deluding ourselves if we think he won't be off to Madrid eventually. I'm glad we have him for maybe a few more years than we thought, but David is four years younger than Keylor. Real will come eventually and David will be happy to go home.
