the video calls out 3 specific jokes and she defended that they were only hiccups.. but her entire twitter feed is either self promotion of jokes stolen. you can just google them and she's stolen them word for word:

[–]ghostdate 17 ポイント18 ポイント  (2子コメント)

I manage to mostly avoid their content, but occasionally some Facebook friend will share some snooty shit article or a video will work it's way into the "popular" section on my YouTube app, and it seems like they really do consider themselves to be the highest moral authority on everything on the internet, and it's really annoying just to read the titles, I don't think I could do a whole article.

[–]Nowhere_Man_Forever 12 ポイント13 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Don't worry the actual articles are really barebones and usually mostly stolen from somewhere else. The title is all they need to get people to see the ads they load.

Jump cuts are being way overused in videos these days. Ze Frank used them, and it worked for his quick format. Now they are used as lazy editing.

Philip DeFranco was the first I remember seeing doing it but that was a loooong time ago.

It also works for the guy that does BroScienceLife, it makes sense because lazy editing is exactly something you would expect his character to do.

It's been so overused at this point that the current generation have gotten used to it, and deems it to be "good" editing.

I made a short video series, and the initial poll on the first episode was "it needs more jump cuts to be funny, because that's the normal thing now"

Ze Frank was incredibly original and funny. I tend to think that any video blog today owes him a debt of gratitude.

Her comment on the video:

Hahahah, I'd be lying if I said I didn't laugh at this. However... first of all, I'd like to say that I never have and never will consider myself a "comedian." I'm just an internet person who tells stories about my life. Second of all, that "remember the titans" joke was tweeted a full two years later (his was in 2012, mine was in 2014). It might be possible that two people shared a similar thought. It's also possible that i saw that joke years before, saw the movie cover in a wal mart, thought "fuck i forgot the titans" without recalling if i initially saw that joke elsewhere and wrote it as my own. I'm a HUGEEE fan of all the comedians you mentioned. I listen to them every day on Pandora when I get ready for the day. People are sponges. Sometimes we hear things in passing or a long time ago and make the same observation years later without really remembering that we've heard it before. What year was the Louis CK joke? Maybe I heard it ages ago, who knows. Isn't that whole India/Indians thing also a really common observation that a million people have had? Also, the Baby it's Cold outside video, I never once thought it was an original thought. I think anyone whos ever heard that song ever has thought the exact same thing, which is why I wanted to put everyones thoughts into internet form. I create relatable content, and that was a relatable thought that I thought would be fun to do with my friends. That all being said, I appreciate your opinion and that people like you care about this stuff. When I see a blatant rip off, I get pissed too. But out of the literal hundreds of videos I've created across my platforms, 3 little hiccups (I feel at least) can be chalked (chocked?) up as "fuck, someone else said this shit before." BUT I REALLY DO LOVE MY FANS and I dont see any harm in giving a shout out to people who support me and make the life I live possible. They're happy, I'm happy... no harm in that as far as I'm concerned!

Her delivery of the Louis C.K. bit put it a bit over what you could consider as just a coincidental thought.

Agreed, I didn't even need to see the Louis CK clip after her delivery to know that it was him she was ripping off. If there's even a shred of doubt, okay, it could just be the whole similar thought thing. But that one? Spot-on rip-off.

"I've never heard of this girl before today and now I, like, hate her. The Internet is totally awesome like that!" - Gabbie, Feb. 2016

Yeah, the Remember the Titans joke, I could easily see many people coming to that joke independently. The Hedberg joke is a little more difficult, but she claimed to be "a HUGEEE fan of all the comedians you mentioned.", and like /u/LOVE_LEFTY_DOWNVOTES said, you can't really be a HUGE Hedberg fan, but not recognize that joke. Then the Louis joke hits way too many of the same moments, to be accidental.

Right, the first case it's basically a one-liner. People can come up with the same one-line, especially very simple ones. But you know, it's still tacky to use someone's previously published one-liner. I could go compile a list of George Burns one liners and start a whole new career on YouTube delivering them. And it would be tacky as hell.

The second two cases are copying the entire idea of the joke, along with the context and delivery. It's mimicry.

There is a lot you can do on the back of another comedian's joke, take the idea, and expand it or trim it back or do something else with it. She could have done either with the Hedberg joke.

Think of the Hedberg joke. She could have spun it a different way. But she didn't. Same with the Indian thing. That's an old joke, a lot of comedians have used the idea of someone landing and calling them Indians.

Yeah I immediately knew which bit it was the moment she started. The delivery and inflection even matched.

Her response was more than I expected from her. Not that I fall into her demographic, but it showed enough self-awareness to make me feel like she's no worse than the average YT personality. She's 24 and is still putting this whole thing together. If she's smart she'll heed the warning and be less lazy next time, but it's not like her fanbase was founded on this Native American Indian bit. If she's truly a content thief, then it won't take much to piece together when it happens again.

It's still plagiarism. I'll admit that some of the jokes can definitely be thought of by two separate people, but the Louis C.K. and especially the Mitch Hedberg joke are just too close to claim that.

However... first of all, I'd like to say that I never have and never will consider myself a "comedian." I'm just an internet person who tells stories about my life.

I'm not an actor, a writer, a comedian, or any other kind of person that ever wants to be famous. But if I were, and somebody was making money off of my ideas and my words, I'd be pretty pissed. Yes, people are sponges, and it's easy to slip now and again not realizing you're blatantly repeating, almost verbatim, someone's very carefully crafted jokes. But if you do it regularly, the onus is on you to be more careful. Actually sit down and think about what you're about to record. That said, I cannot believe people still watch vlogs on YouTube.

You know, sometimes I fear that the generation that is raising up these talentless "stars" and allowing them to get money for doing nothing will burn this world to the ground.

Have you seen "reactionist" videos on youtube?

Check out Jinx. 1.4 million subscribers. Makes at least six figures a year.

What does he do? HE TAKES POPULAR VIDEOS, PLACES THEM UNEDITED IN THE BOTTOM-LEFT OF THE SCREEN, AND THEN "REACTS" TO THEM. Fully unedited content for the most part. Literally stealing the content of others and profiting off of it by just watching it.

What. The. Fuck.

If I did that with a Disney movie, my video would be down in 2.5 seconds. But Youtubers? Fuck em, Youtube deals with big youtube networks and won't fight the money to get videos taken down.

Here's IHE's video on it

And GradeAUnderA.

Even before "reactionists" I remember seeing Danger Dolan's "top 10 videos" rise to millions of subscribers with absolutely terrible content. He probably makes 7 figures for that terribleness.

There is no God.

There's a ton of great content on YouTube as well. On TV, you have to sift through American Idol and the Kardashians to find Fargo or The Man in the High Castle. On YouTube, ignore PewDiePie and whoever this chick is, and you can find the Engineer Guy or Every Frame a Painting. It's there, it's just not as popular as the lowest common denominator stuff.

This is very true. Sorting through garbage entertainment isn't a new thing either. Television has all its garbage filler shows, books have romance novels, music has boy bands, every form of entertainment is 1 part greatness to every 10 parts garbage.

Well, like YouTube, tv and film have some pretty awful content. But there are people/shows that are really good, and they can get popular. Other times, like networks like Nickelodeon and Disney, are filled with idiotic shows that I assume don't have a writer hired, and those are popular to kids as well. So essentially, manipulate children's minds, get $$$$

I'm at the age now where I think the next generation is retarded because I don't understand the things they do.

So my answer to your question. The new generation of young people are retarded.

Maybe most young people are retarded and we only believe we had good taste at that age because we were all too retarded to know any better?

Dude when I was a kid Leek Spin and dramatic chipmunk were funny. I think these kids watching someone play a game have it all wrong/s

Seriously the stuff we all liked as kids is and has always been fucking stupid

I just watched "the best vines of 2015" compilation video and I realized how old I am because I struggled to laugh at most of it. What used to be "funny" is now "annoying", and instead of laughs, I felt empathetic cringes.

Because you shared the same teenage angst and retardation that they shared. Then your brain matured and you realized that shit is stupid. So it's not funny.

I didn't know she did anything other than Vines. She's one of the most successful Vine "stars" right now (for whatever that's worth). Shame that people like this have to steal their way to success.

In her defense, "I forgot the Titans" is such an obvious thing to say I don't think anyone can really lay claim to inventing that joke. Hundreds of thousands of people have probably said a similar thing about The Alamo.
