Barefoot. Or any boxed wines. Barefoot red moscato is sweet, pink moscato is sweeter. Cheap enough but not so cheap you want to die.

Someone said Rex Goliath and that tastes like rubbing alcohol, don't do it.

I absolutely second this! Barefoot is a great starting wine. I've turned many people into wine drinkers with their Moscato. You can slowly work your way up to Pinot Grigio from there too (my favorite white) and they do make some decent reds when you're ready to venture into that world too.

Barefoot is my girlfriend's go to. She's 100 pounds soaking wet and she's not much of a drinker. A bottle of this for 10 bucks Canadian fits the bill for a best of both worlds between cost and taste.

White zinfandel. Barefoot is yummy. I'm classy and drink Franzia, which is cheap and decent for whites and pretty shitty for reds. (As is the case for most cheap wines, imo.)

Yeah I would stick with a white zin. Moscatos are SUPER sweet, like a dessert, and after one glass it starts to taste syrupy to me, personally.

White Zinfandel would be perfect. Or, if you can find one, a Sweet Merlot (not a regular Merlot).

Edit: OH! One more! Look for Acronym -- the cabernet sauvignon. Also really good.

get some whiskey

Tried it, hated it. Also I want to find an alcoholic beverage I can sip on without getting plastered lol

You can mix it with Cola 1:3 whiskey to soda ratio just to test it

Dare you to mix whisky with cola, if its cheap bourbon like Jack Daniels do it - it tastes like shit anyways- but never mix scotch with cola.

Moscato. Rex Goliath is cheap. Seven Daughters is a well along with barefoot.

I was going to say Moscato, you beat me to it.

Same, we got 4 bottles of Barefoot and Andre Pink Moscato for New Years. I can't drink wines normally but that was pretty good!

I can't help with wines, will let other redditors do that, but based off that fact that you like sweet wines I'll give you a little list of potential drinks if you ever want something other than wine or want to expand you palate a bit.

Beer: IPAs probably aren't a great place to start with you if you like sweet, maybe check out some sour beers, they're also coming more and more into vogue (at least among my drinking circle.) So lot's of new choices to explore - can get a bit pricey.

Mixed drinks: I'd try out the standards to see if you have a base liquor preference, all can be made more or less sweet by adding or mixer, also can be pretty cheap if you're buying to make at home. At the very least try:

Gin and Tonic

Whiskey and Coke

Rum and Coke

The later two are based on the "sweeter" liquors and tonic is super sweet, so these may be the closet to your wheel house.

Mead: I'm not super knowledgeable here, but have definitely had mead that basically taste like a thicker, sweet wine (although closer to a desert wine.)

Hopefully this helps!

I really appreciate the expanding drinks! I wanted to ask about more than wine but didn't want the topic to be too braod. I have very little experience with alcohol and about 95% of it is vodka and some sort of juice or soda, with the occasional mix up of whiskey or gin instead and some "bitch drinks" (unfortunately I'm a dude so this is not generally socially acceptable for some reason?). I have had a bud light and coors light, as well as a dos equis and 2 IPAs my brother gave me (one was so hard to not gag after each sip, the other was a cold brew coffee IPA and it was okay), of those the easiest to down was probably the coors.

1) Order whatever you want, so don't worry about "bitch drinks" your only really concern should be trying to get the vibe of the place to figure out what to get (there's nothing wrong with getting a margarita, but there are place's where its wrong to get one cause it'll be bad,)

2) Hops (which give IPA their IPAiness for lack of better phrasing) can take getting used to, definitely don't jump in feet first to IPA realm if you aren't predisposed to the taste.

3) Ciders are more and more of a valid option as well.

Maybe Hogue Riesling. Sweet and light. For wine.

Beer start with Pyramid apricot ale if available in your region.

White Zinfandel. It's a bit on the sweet side for my taste, regardless of who makes it. If you're in CA, Two Buck Chuck (Charles Shaw, but it's $2.49 now) at Trader Joe's is about as cheap as it comes, but it's decent quality.

apothic and gnarly head, any of their reds.

thumbs up to apothic! also- if you can find a bottle of JAM JAR. It's amazing.

If you don't know anything about alcohol I wouldn't want to start with wine. Wine is an acquired taste, much like IPAs for beer.

Whiskey sours, rum and coke, hard lemonades and apple ciders are good starters into the alcohol world as they are easier to palate. After that harder drinks will be much easier to handle. Martinis and different sweet shots.

But since you just turned 21, just experiment, find what type of alcohol you enjoy the most.

Whiskey. Don't be a fucking bitch.

I drank too much whiskey one time and now it makes me gag. I do not like whiskey and if that makes me a bitch then so be, it I honestly couldn't care less

Franzia chillable red box wine is pretty good and it's 5 liters for about 17 dollars

Moscato is really sweet and relatively cheap. a decent bottle is like $10-$15

barefoot is really good ( although im no wine connoisseur)and around 5$!

I thought barefoot caused cancer or something

Arbor Mist is about half strength but the point is the flavor. Riesling is a normal wine that's really sweet.

Ice wine is expensive. If you can get it as a gift, do. Don't spend your own money on it.

I am not a person who likes the taste of alcohol, so I too prefer mild, sweet wines.

My favourite wines are generally Rieslings. The best brand I have found on the cheaper side is Clean Slate, it's usually around $12/bottle. If you need to go even cheaper than that, Barefoot isn't bad and is frequently on sale at Target for like $5.

If you end up enjoying Rieslings and ever feel like splurging, the best one I have ever had is Pegasus Bay. It's a bit pricier at $25 but it's so smooth you won't even know you are drinking alcohol. Hard to find in the US though, unfortunately.

White wine? Maybe not brand but varietal. Sauvignon blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio, Moscato, Verdehlo...All have reasonable levels of fruitiness and residual sugar. Best to ask the shop attendant if they know whether the wine is sweet or dry (means no sugar residing after the wine had fermented so not as sweet generally). The back label should give you an indication of comparable fruits too and if they are sweeter fruits then it should be easy drinking. If red wine, well it's hit and miss but generally a fruit driven Shiraz will be a safe bet there to start with. Red is a much lower risk of tasting like cats piss because of the type of acid but some will feel very puckery in your mouth, which you will enjoy later but not now.

Barefoot Moscato is pretty much the best cheap wine you can get. I've been drinking for years and love a lot of different things. Even a lot of more expensive wine. But I still buy Barefoot Moscato. Drinking it ATM.

Go to Walmart and pick up Wild Vines. I like their blackberry merlot. Last time i bought the stuff it was around $3 a bottle.

White Zinfandels are wonderful

Specifically Roscato Rosso Dolce.

This is what the bottle looks like and they sell it all over the place in my area (Southern California).

Rieslings are sweet whites. Domestic varieties (meaning ones from California for instance if you are in the US) are cheaper than ones from Germany. Funf is a good brand though that runs under $10.

I don't know how cheap you are looking. People who are suggesting Arbor Mist and stuff are really just talking about dressed up Boons Farm. It's not wine. It's Kool aid in a wine bottle. There are no pomegranate flavored grapes. Stay away from that if you want anyone to take you seriously.

Also white zinfandel. It's fine, but it's a "blush" wine because it's a mash of the leftover red and white grapes and it's just sort of a mess. Don't get that if you are trying to impress someone. You won't. There are no "pricey" varieties of white zin for a reason. There are however ways to buy it in huge quantities. That should tell you something. Stay away.

Riesling has sub varieties that go up in sweetness but usually also in price. Also, the sub varieties are almost universally German. Sweeter than a standard Riesling is a Spatlese and then sweeter than that is an Auslese. The latter is almost like juice but has a significant alcohol content. It's very sweet and suited to be a dessert wine really. Any bottle you find at a supermarket even of auslese is going to run around $20 give or take a few. Obviously it depends on your access and area.

I still recommend finding a Riesling. You really can't go wrong. It will be sweeter than any other type of wine for the most part and pleasant with any meal. I really haven't had any crap brands, but as always with alcohol, stay away from the box and don't buy the absolute cheapest bottle you see. Always go one step up at least.

LAMBRUSCO.

Try Moscatos for whites and merlots for reds, try as many as you can and then stick to your favourite and your tastes will develop from there into more drier type wines.

Personally I wouldn't recommend wine to start (kinda bias as I personally don't prefer wine..) but I would suggest mixing liquor with juices and pop to start off if you're looking for sweet (screwdriver, long island, bellini, etc.). If you REALLY want wine, I would just recommend White Zinfandel or Moscato

Gewurztraminer is sweet and delicious. I hated wine and this got me started because of how sweet it is. Fetzer is a good one and it's about 10 a bottle.

Oh lord. MD. Tastes the same coming up as going down. The orange makes a decent fuzzy navel though. At least from what I recall in my 20s
