To all the compilation makers that browse the sub, is there any chance you'd be able to make a video of Mason's decisions yesterday?

Genuinely one of the most shocking performances from an official I've ever seen (and I was at the Spurs game earlier this season). I have a feeling that once again another horrendous refereeing performance is going to be quietly swept under the rug.

It wasn't just the goal, it was almost every decision, the 2 penalty shouts, the Middlesborough free kicks, at one point he even gave a handball - that he didn't see- about 10 seconds after it happened, seemingly only because he was getting abused by the fans.

There are players that don't make this many mistakes in one game, and the media writes their obituary for them. I know it's a long shot and a big ask, but it'd certainly be good to see all the examples in one go. Lee Mason has history of being incompetent, but yesterday was next level absurdity.

It's time to stop blaming the refs and start blaming their bosses who ultimately do not give them a chance in hell to succeed.

No one alive doesn't make mistakes, and refs are no different. Whilst I'm sure there are some decisions which are just downright bad, whether that be for bias or pressure from fans/prior incidents, the majority are probably a mistake, or a decision made in a split second with no benefit of hindsight.

The FA have a policy (which I used to think was essential) of the refs decision being final, no retroactive action possible if an actual mistake was made. I think this was designed to protect refs in a way; they had no need to explain their actions or mistakes, so it was just suck it and leave it from fans.

With the game just being so much bigger than it used to be, with every action on social media being debated minutes after it happens, it's time for a much needed change.

1 - refs need to speak to the media, if anything just to be able to say sorry when they fuck up. Apart from the monkiest of tribal fans, the majority of people can accept that.
2 - video 4th official is essential now. Fuck if it takes control away from the refs, if they were better and infallible to making mistakes it wouldn't be necessary but it is. A game can still be playing whilst a 4th ref is rewatching something, takes at absolute most 30 seconds. Anything needs over-riding, ref is informed and stops the game.
3 - some actual reprimands for fucking up.

This is just the start. Someone with more smarts than me can probably pick other things, and faults with some of my suggestions.

This season I've seen 3 or 4 games which before this season would have been the worst ref performances I've ever seen.
The premier league just has too much money in it now for this to continue.

It's just archaic really. 2017 now and yet we still rely on a middle aged man's vision to determine the result of a game, where like you said it's so much bigger than it used to be. The money involved especially in this league really change things. Every decision has to be spot on nowadays.

The thing is that video refereeing would take about as much time as it does for the players to be a bunch of irritating cunts and go crowd the ref. The difference is the video refereeing from an entertainment point of view brings the home viewers into the game as they discuss with their mates, or the pub, or reddit what the decision should be as they watch the replay like the video ref does. So any arguments about it slowing down the game, it doesn't really do that at all IF IMPLEMENTED PROPERLY.

We need to hear everything the ref hears too. Just like rugby. Isn't it funny how a sport involving men just hurling each other at the ground has a far more advanced refereeing system. Also appreciate the respect refs get it that sport, more needs to be done for players who talk back to refs.

He was bad. But the worst part is - he had some competition from Anthony Taylor who was in charge of Leicester - West Ham game.

Video refereeing in Rugby works a treat, is quick and ensures that the correct call is always made.

TBF though, they don't use video reffing for every incident on the field and those refs who are constantly referring to the TMO for every minor incident, get (rightly) hammered for breaking up the flow of a game.

That is why in football only major incidents should be referred. Or, like in Cricket, each captain has a limited number of referrals available.
