If I were running from a person, I could at least anticipate being tackled, punched, etc. Running from a trained dog? Terrifying.

Running from a trained dog who knows how to bite properly and hang on. My dog does bite work and seeing that they ENJOY it so much more than anything else? That dog wants to bite you and you can hit him all you want, he is not letting go. NO, THANK YOU.

if it's anything like my dog, if she is in the "hunt" she feels zero pain, or doesn't act like she does. Super focused. She's a plott hound (75 lbs) so not even as tough as police dogs.

she was hunting and chasing a squirrel and got cut on the side from some poorly placed aluminum siding. Large 5+ inch gash and she didn't even notice.

A lot of breeds are this way, I'm sure it's more prevalent in hunting/protection focused breeds.

But it is sometimes scary how little regard our pit bulls have for any physical pain or discomfort

Wouldn't that be considered felonious assault since the pup is technically a cop?

Absolutely, tho if you're at the point where you're punching a police dog you're already pretty well screwed I'd imagine.

So part of certain kinds of bite training competition is that they hit the dogs with a kind of rubber hose or baton (stings, does not injure) to see if they let go, and the dogs lose points if they let go.

Look up knpv or French ring on youtube. Can't link easily on mobile.

I'm sure the dog has to feel some kind of pain otherwise it's gonna let go if it feels any pain from a real situation

From u/Crappler319 on why you don't run from police dogs:

You're not going to outrun any German Shepherd, and chasing and biting people is literally this specific dog's favorite thing. Motherfucker loves to bite people. He's probably spent most of his life, since he was a puppy, being trained to chase and bite motherfuckers. This shit is like the Super Bowl and Grad night all rolled together for him. You see how he's pulling on his harness? He's like "FUCKING, LET ME GO! LET ME BITE HIM! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU I'M A DOG! I'M A DOOOOOOG FUCK YOOOOU! I'M GONNA FUCK YOU UP AS SOON AS HE LETS GO OF ME I SWEAR TO GOD, I SWEAR TO GOD LET ME GO LET ME GO IWANNABITEHIMSOBAD LET ME GO LETMEFUCKINGGOOOOOOOO" He does that every time, and his handler pretty much NEVER lets him do his thing. And now, this time, miraculously, he has. He's let go of the harness, and now this majestic beast is at last fulfilling his purpose as a living missile, and my god is he ever thrilled about it. And you, with your stumpy little human legs, overabundance of slow twitch muscle fibers, and soft, delicate skin, are going to try to run from this 80 lb mass of muscle and enthusiasm with a bear trap on the end? Good luck, you stupid, stupid asshole. I'll see you in the Timothy Treadwell Memorial Ward for People Who Predictably Had Their Shit Ruined by Large Predators. Shine on, you idiotic diamond.

Good point, carrying a cat with me next time I rob a bank! My cat swapped my great dane in the nose when they met, kind of a "whose in charge now bitch!". It worked, my great dane about 10x bigger than the cat knows who runs the house (and it's not me).

And then if you do hit the dog it counts as assaulting an officer. I really hate that law, especially when civilian dogs count as property when shot by your neighbor and even less than that when shot by a cop.

I'm breaking it's neck if this ever happens; I believe police dogs to be inhuman and a contributor to police brutality. It's outrageous that I'd be charged with murder of a police officer for this act. That dog had no choice in becoming a tool of the state, and it doesn't know the difference between right and wrong. It only knows to hurt whatever the Alpha Officer tells it to.

If you don't have obstacles to use to evade an attacking dog then your best bet is to try and front kick/stomp it in the mouth or use your forearms to catch it's bites and then put it in a chokehold and take it to the ground. You will definitely need a hospital visit but as long as it doesn't get your throat or main artery you should be able to take on a dog.

If you do this to a police dog you will probably get shot.

[–]errl_dabbingtons [スコア非表示]  (28子コメント)

IF it's trying to bite my fucking arm off, I'll fucking gatling gun it if i could.

Seriously, as a child who has been chased by scary dogs for not fucking with them, I don't like irl dogs.

I find it hard to imagine how. Not questioning if it works. But I'm actually curious to know cause I've seen some aggressive dogs and it's nice to know what to do in an emergency.

I love our family dog and most dogs I meet. But in an emergency situation go ahead and call me and asshole, but I'll value a humans life over the dogs.

This is the kind of thing that I'll try to remember for the rest of my life, solely because I'm afraid of finding myself being mauled to death by an attack dog and having my last thoughts be "this all could have been avoided if I'd listened to u/errl_dabbingtons."

really, cops can shoot you if you try to defend yourself from a K-9? I guess you're assaulting a "police officer" but it is biting you ffs.

Its not a "Police officer" they just are officers.

And you aren't defending yourself, they don't just (well they aren't supposed to) release K-9 on people for fun. That's like saying if a cop tackles you for breaking the law you should be able to fight him off and not get shot.

That's like saying if a cop tackles you for breaking the law you should be able to fight him off and not get shot.

I'm sure many people actually think this is logical...

if the dog just tackled you then it would be the same thing, but the dog bites you. I don't know of many human officers who tackle you and then proceed to bite you and make you bleed.

Well, they'll tackle you onto concrete and then jump on top of you. Happens all the time.

They're trained to tackle and hold, such as grabbing a limb and holding on. They don't have hands, so it's harder for them to grab you like a person. Still, they're not actively trying to kill you like a feral dog or a wild animal (in theory).

This guy is not innocent. He ran from a car he stole (presumably from the title). Would you rather the cops just look at him and go "Well shoot. He got away. Couldn't have him take a bite to stop a criminal".

As soon as you run after you commit a crime you take on the risks, which include getting bit by a dog.

[–]Graawwrr [

The dogs are well trained. Stop running and get on the ground and the dog won't try to stop you.

Yep if you attack one of those dogs it's assault on an officer. But 9/10 the people who get bit by them had ample chance not to get bit by that dog. It's like saying stop playing by that fire or you will get burnt. Then you fall in get pissed off at the fire and extinguish it out of anger. Long story short abide by the law and this won't happen

There's plenty of cases online you can look up where the dog went after someones face , they DO train them to go for limbs but you can't really control what happens 100% of the time.

Exactly. You can train the dog to go for arms or legs, but their base instinct is to go for the throat.

I have an 8 month old Dogo and watching him wrassle with my Corso is impressive. He instinctually goes right after the much larger dog's front limbs and causes him to drop his head. That being said, the Corso, as well as the boar, have a MUCH thicker hide than us poor humans. Even when being "non lethal" that dog's teeth would cause ahelluvalot of damage.

For the record, there are specific breeds of dogs that DO understand non lethal force. An example is the Argentine Dogo, which instinctively catches and holds wild boars for the hunter to dispatch.

Fun fact: can't confirm 100% that this isn't a myth, but apparently this style grew from poorer areas, where lots of kids had older brothers but no money for clothes that they would only grow out of, so they wore their brothers clothes that was too big. And now, it's fashion!

A little known fact is that back in 1912, Hellmann’s mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico but as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York.

The ship hit an iceberg and sank and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5 and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.

This is the true meaning of it. Similar to the tear drop tattoo. It started as a brand that people in prison would tattoo on people they fucked, to show they were a prison bitch. When they got out, they didn't want to tell their friends and family they have a tear drop because they were getting butt fucked, so they told them it was because they killed somebody. People who'd never been to prison heard this and believed it, and that's why they put a teardrop on when they killed someone

There's an idiotic reason and a sad truth. One is just dumb rap culture, the other is many kids and young people can't afford new clothes so they either inherit a siblings or they have to wear pants that are too small. The pants at the waste are too tight/small or too short in the legs which require them to sag them. I assume many just keep doing it because they always have and those around them have. Cyclical nature I guess.

Grew up in a poor neighborhood, inherited clothes from siblings. Not poor anymore and wont embrace it again.

Prison inmates would get belts to keep their pants up however those who misused their belts (i.e. To attack someone) got their belt taken away. Their pants sagged because the belt was no longer there to support them. The style was probably liked because it signified their toughness and rebelliousness.

I'm guessing upon release from prison and returning back to their "hood" they're are likely of higher status because they went to prison so the others copied their style.

Whenever I see shows or movies where the villain outruns a dog for more than a few seconds, I know the directors had no idea what they're talking about. Especially when it shows the dogs right behind someone and chasing them for minutes. Criminals: don't take movie advice, you can't outrun a dog.

From the moment I open the back door until she closes in on the tree is a matter of seconds. Absolutely no way I'd want to be in a situation where I was trying to get away from a K9 unit...just not going to happen.

I know you're joking but dogs get trained to take commands in different languages and the handlers also have a device on them that they can press that activates on their collar if they don't get off.

In the above post, /u/MichaelSasso ("Micheal") acknowledged /u/Zee-Man123's joke. Then, Micheal proceeded to tell us that the Dogs learn commands in different languages. Finally, Micheal enhanced our understanding by discussing a device that, upon tactile stimulation, activates a collar on the dog, but such device is only used when the dogs ignore verbal commands (in a variety of different languages). Hope this helped.

You are correct, but how did you manage to spell my name wrong when it's right there? At least it wasn't in a presidential AMA though..

Their "magic word" op comment is referring to often times isn't in English; their commands are in other languages so they're distinct and the dogs will likely not hear them outside of when they are issued a command. There's a command for the dog to stop attacking the suspect and if they ignore it, the handlers use what is essentially a shock collar to get them off.

TLDR don't mess with a K-9 unit or law enforcement for that matter

The bad guy's on the ground and bit so fast they don't even know what happened.

I didn't work with him, but a K-9 I knew had used both a Rottie. His Rottie had the highest arrest record in the department, ever, and he could really fuck a bad guy up. But he said he really loved the Malinois for its chase speed.
