There’s More To This Boeing Deal Than Meets The Eye….Much More

Trump claims that he’s going to cancel a Boeing contract for two new Air Force One planes because of “cost.” But that is an outright lie. Here’s the real reason for Trump’s attack on Boeing….

Hold up media….Before you give Trump any more praise for saying he wants to cancel the Boeing order for 2 new Air Force Ones because of “cost”…..how about you acknowledge the fact that Trump only attacked….and lied about…the Boeing deal because he didn’t like what the Boeing chief said about him and his trade policies in an article that came out earlier this month.

Trump sent out his tweet about the Boeing deal, causing its stock to drop 22 minutes after the article came out. And when it comes to Trump, there’s no such thing as coincidence.

Come on media…do your damn job!

Here’s what actually happened….

On December 6, a Chicago Tribune article came out about Boeing. The article pointed out that Boeing’s CEO Dennis Muilenburg was a bit critical of Trump’s trade policies.

Muilenburg said,

“I’m not a political pundit or prognosticator — we have too many of those — but anyone who paid attention to the recent campaigns and the election results realizes that one of the overarching themes was apprehension about free and fair trade.”

The article continues,

“Muilenburg suggests the Trump team, and Congress, back off from the 2016 anti-trade rhetoric and perceived threats to punish other countries with higher tariffs or fees.

Instead, he suggests they get down to the business of advocating a stronger U.S. agenda during ongoing or upcoming trade negotiations with other countries.

“If we do not lead when it comes to writing these rules, our competitors will write them for us,” he said.”

And then 22 minutes after this article posted, Trump attacked Boeing on Twitter.

Not only did he attack Boeing because they apparently hurt his feelings, but he also lied. He claimed that he wanted the Boeing contract cancelled because of a $4 billion cost. But he totally made that figure up. According to a statement put out today by Boeing,

“We are currently under contract for $170 million to help determine the capabilities of these complex military aircraft that serve the unique requirements of the President of the United States. We look forward to working with the U.S. Air Force on subsequent phases of the program allowing us to deliver the best planes for the President at the best value for the American taxpayer.”

And Politico is reporting that the current Pentagon budget for two new planes is $1.65 billion. And, since the contract is only three weeks old, it’s very hard to believe Trump’s claim that they are already $4 billion over budget.

This whole thing is alarming, not just because he lied….we’re kinda expecting that at this point. The more concerning thing is this blatant abuse of power. Trump didn’t like what someone said about him so he put out intentional lies to cause their share price to nosedive. And he did it for no other reason that to punish them for hurting his precious ego.
