They actually put the shovel on a plate.

So technically doesn't belong in this sub? So confused

It does belong here, the food itself isn't served on a plate!

Only if you eat the shovel.

I know you all know it, I know... But some have asked "why?" and there actually is an answer.

In old times on trains the workers actually cooked like that. Put all you want on a shovel and then put it in the fire pit.

So I would not mind this. But if you cook it on a frying pan and then put it on a shovel... Well I'd be paying 40 cents for it, because as long as we are pretending to be in the old times with no actual effort, I will be paying like in the old times with no actual care.

Could you rewrite that in the form of a Grandpa Simpson rant?

Be the change you want to see in the world.

So they would eat food covered in coal dust and soot? That doesn't make any sense, knowing that they would actually store their lunches in their hats to keep them clean. Steam locomotives were dirty as hell back then before environmental regulations, the rise of diesel, and the subsequent use of steam locomotives solely for shiny excursions.

Breakfast cooked on the Shovel [4:29]

This was my first ever cooking and eating experience with a 'fry-up' on the shovel prepared by the loco crew at The Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway on board Locomotive No. 80105 (and lived to tell the tale) but seriously though I really did enjoy my bacon roll and many thanks to the Loco crew on that day for inviting me onboard for breakfast.

Seriously. Just why. Like, would they still wash that shovel like anything else they use?

The thought of that shovel moving and sliding around the plate at every cut of the sausage is traumatising.

ugh depending on the plate, it could make chalkboard-scratching-like sounds.

Internet sleuthing time! This is at a place on the Isle of Man called the Tickethall. This is the "Fireman's Breakfast."

5 Items only! What kind of half effort breakfast is that?

The idea of food on a shovel seems funny if there were absolutely loads of it, but otherwise... give me a plate!

I'm sure that black paint is edible. Is it gristle or paint? Eh, who the fuck cares?

The shovel would be bad enough on its own but the eggs and beans are touching each other. The potential bulwark sausage is right there and nobody thought to use it. Sick bastards!

Spot on, and I'm disappointed our American cousins are not equally disgusted.

Beans are touching the mushrooms too and I am not happy about that either.

Can't imagine how annoying it would be trying to cut stuff up on that plate without the shovel rocking all over the damn place.

I wonder how far back the handle goes. Like, is it a full shovel? Or did they cut the handle so it doesn't hit the person across the table?

I thought the same thing. Plus its gotta be super annoying as a waiter/ess to carry around a full shovel without knocking things over.

The handle is only about six inches long. I have one just like it for scooping dog shit off my patio, no joke.

You let your dog shit on the patio?

Well, I let her out in the back. I haven't given her written permission, but you know, she's a dog. That's why I have a shovel.

I've seen the full picture somewhere. It's a short-handled shovel. They specifically sourced or manufactured this. Disgusting.

They're quite common in the UK, I have a couple of them. Mostly just use them as pooper scoopers, but whatever.

Not mine, just found on the internet

Nooooooo. Awful. Why.

Can we just skip all that hassle of shoveling and just get a continuous trough straight to the table?

This is at a buffet style restaurant. They have all the food available in wheel barrows. You pay, they give you a shovel, and then you just "dig in."

I think you're onto something there.
