I really like memes, but I don't know if I like how they're taking over the subreddit. I can only imagine what 34 will be like once Ciera's actually back on the screen talking about voting out her mom.

The are actual discussion posts that are being made, people rewatching seasons and giving their thoughts, discussion prompts about favorite mazes or Survivor pet peeves. But people aren't even seeing and responding to these often well-thought out, detailed posts because the same low-effort meme just takes up the whole front page.

This is one of the biggest flaws of the up/downvote system. Posts that have actual content are less likely to receive upvotes because they provoke thought and actual discussion rather than a simple "haha thats funny ill upvote then move on with my day." You see this in basically every large sub, and it's why most large subs ban memes because otherwise they'd just become what this place is, except year-round.

I mean I get that there isn't much to talk about on the off season but I do still try and visit the sub daily. But it's been really hard to do this recently, even when filtering out the shit posts, there really isn't any great convos going around and I can't tell if it's because people are being bombarded with memes or people just don't care to talk about Survivor right now. I've never seen the sub like this before though, I'd much rather it go back to how it was the past few off seasons where it's a little slow but at least there are some good conversations and threads that come up. I just can't imagine 3 more months of this on this board, I also can't tell how anyone would actually enjoy reading the same joke meme up to like what 20 times? I get maybe 3-4 times but after that it kind of loses it's charm, but I guess not.....

i just think overall it kind of brings the sub down a notch and if any new survivor fans came to this board to think about possibly joining /r/survivor I can't imagine them actually joining.

I'm sorry guys, but the reality of the situation is that over the years this place has been inundated with more and more "casuals" and younger fans. Back when I joined this sub about 6 years ago, none of those people were here. It was strictly just Survivor talk and "who should be on ASS 2" during the off season.

Things have changed around here but as long as it doesn't carry into the season, it doesn't bug me too much. It's a shame that so many people can ruin a few good jokes though.
