It is in step with how white Americans usually respond to Black oriented protest groups.

Edit: order had to be restored

Why can't they just protest the right way?

edit: the to they

obligatory, conservative-god Ronnie Raygun passed the strictest gun control laws at the time to stop black panthers from exercising their 2A rights comment.

You mean the same reddit that thinks Black Panther Party = KKK dipped in chocolate? You don't say?

Funny how reddit seems to love guns but once minorities start using them it's not okay.

[–]xSkiller 25 ポイント26 ポイント  (0子コメント)

they want guns to "protect" themselves against minorities, so it makes sense they'd be afraid if they had guns.

somewhat relevant (also because it popped up on my FB feed an hour ago)

This is actually a little depressing because it's "post-truth" politics in a nutshell: say something bigoted, stupid and dangerous, then act on it before waiting for anyone to confirm if it's even true or false.

(edit: I know what Clickhole is, also, so yeah, I get the joke, it's just that reality is The Onion/Clickhole now and I want to trade it in for a saner universe)

I get this impression that a lot of Americans primarily care for the sentimentality of equality; and when this notion is challenged by examples of inequality, they'll contradictorily come to the defense of this offended sensibility.

Think on how common it is to hear the retort 'BLM (or x) are the real racists'. They seem to believe equality is rooted primarily in rhetorical balance.

It isn't as if all these individuals are implicitly racist - most, I'm sure, are equally offended by use of the word 'nigger'. Prejudiced, I'm sure, but that is a significantly harder category to escape. I just receive the impression that there is this profound disconnect between the observable inequalities in society, and this common understanding that we're all equal in principle; and this disconnect makes it more tempting to take offense to the implication that things are not, in any true sense of the word, 'equal'.

White Americans seem to largely view racism as a performative and moral thing, where it becomes more important that they avoid looking like racists (i.e. Bad People) than actually challenging racism (i.e. upsetting the status quo).

Reddit is alarmingly racist.

[–]HeliumEgo[S] 21 ポイント22 ポイント  (2子コメント)

Basically, but worded a lil more subtly because apparently it's really mean to call people racist

[–]MichaelPenn 18 ポイント19 ポイント  (1子コメント)

If you call somebody out for being racist, then they will become a racist, even though they were already racist.

It was weird watching as reddit tried to reconcile when Sanders went full throated on BLM being good last year, that's for sure.

"I don't agree with what they have to say, but i will fight to the death to ensure they have the right to say it" -Redditors towards literal Nazi's

"..." -Redditors towards black activists

Don't you know that free speech only counts for white supremacy and fascist shit like holocaust denial?

Ah shit I forgot. Looks like I'm the real racist
