I do agree with the general fact that payouts aren't worth the reward. Yeah, I know you can grind and grind. I am an MMO type guy who is used to doing things, sometimes repeatedly, to reach a plateau.

That's fine for awhile! I enjoy it, but it gets really old. Time vs reward is really missing in this game.

I understand they are driving towards selling more shark cards, and that is what it is, I also love that everything can technically be earned... thats cool too.

I really like GTAO, but the amount you make over the amount of time it takes, makes getting money boring, tedious... well you get the point.

They need to work on it. The game allows you to do some really cool things in ways no other game could pull off before it. But damnit they need to really work on their payouts.

I feel like the grind of getting cash would be rewarding if time between matches didn't take so long or the servers would cooperate for more than an hour at a time. There's so much mood killing bull in between the fun bits that suck any enjoyment out of the game for me.

So many damn loading screens. It's not so bad for me because i have a SSD, but I've got friends who don't..it's so long!

[–]GamerToons [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I hear you on that.

A lot of times my friends will just stay in the map and fuck around, because the mission loading just sucks the life out.

Some of the new inworld things help resolve that, but those payouts are not great and pretty risky too.

I would have sticked to the game, if the matchmaking was better. Me and my friend just wanted to play the Heists and we wasted hours waiting for 2 other players.

I just have to say that GTAO alone really soured my impression of Rockstar Games. They used to be one of my favourite developers, but with GTAO they showed a side that I really didn't like - it's lacklustre, built to get players to grind themselves into the ground for ingame money, and basically destroys the love anyone has for the base game because it reduces the experience to little more than time vs money. It just sucks as an experience when you compare it to the singleplayer masterpieces they create.

Yeah. I grew up playing gta 2 and the series evolved as I got older. Now it's just... grindy for the sake of making them more money. I really thought rockstar was one of the companies that would spend extra time making an excellent expansion just for their love of the creation. I don't doubt that rdr2 will have a good single player campaign but I'm sure they're going to try and repeat this online non sense in that game too.

[–]Sputniki [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

Yeah I just wish they made a singleplayer followup to GTAV instead of GTAO. People would happily pay 30 bucks a pop for a Lost and Damned/Ballad of Gay Tony style expansion I'm sure, which would still make tons of money and unlike GTAO also generate a lot of goodwill for the company. I don't think anyone believes that GTAO has elevated Rockstar's standing within the video games community whatsoever, in fact only the opposite. It's just a poor product and a stain on a company with an otherwise stellar record.

You look at their track record and it was so unbelievably promising for so long. They made gta 3, which was a crazy breakthrough in 3d games, and then followed up with vice city and san andreas, both which were excellent. They made gta 4, which again, pushed the envelope, with 2 amazing expansions to boot. Redemption itself was amazing, with undead nightmare being one of the best zombie games I can think of (and I've played fucking all of them basically). Then gta 5 had a decent campaign but it was poisoned by this, this whole situation reeks of corporate meddling.

GTA V was still a helluva single player experience. It was worth the purchase not including the online elements.

If the number he mentioned in the video is true, you would need to pay over $400 dollars in real money to get the new vehicles (going by $100 = 8,000,000 shark card money).

[–]oneechankimochi [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I fucking hate what they did with sharkcards. Shit payouts and really expensive shit. So as much as I hate cheating, I ended up seeking out modding communities/subreddits in order to get some money drops. Got about 10 mill off of modders inviting for drops.

I'm honestly shocked GTA Online even has a community after so long. Even at launch the game was a grind fest and the whole experience was technically flawed (Jesus christ that constant loading). Seeing Rockstar fucking nickle and dime people this bad is such a let down, really soured me to the whole company.

[–]wawaboy2 [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

Despite coming out in 2013 it still hits the top 5 most sold games every year. It's longevity is astounding. I really think it has become an MMO to entire generation of players.

[–]DarkLeoDude [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

I disagree. Even in gaming circles the only time GTA Online is mentioned is when someone is showing off the hilarious physics engine derping out (WASTED) or to talk about how shitty the grind is. Not exactly a whole lot of culture or history going on over there.

My personal theory is that GTA Online is basically sustained by the collective blue balls of the gaming community. Ever since GTA 3 people have been chomping at the bit to play the game in an MMO-style world. It's what everyone always wanted the series to be at its zenith. That was a fantasy for 10+ years until GTA Online dropped, and no matter how flawed and criminally mismanaged the game is, that dream keeps pulling people in. If it wasn't so broken from a system standpoint and operated with such sleaze I'd probably have put more time into it than I did.

[–]wawaboy2 [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I dunno, even now if you go to Xbox and look at its currently most popular it's GTA and if you look at most sold this week #9 is GTA. Look at Steam right now and GTA V is the #3 played game.

There's got to be more there than simply a yearning for multiplayer GTA. I don't really know anyone who is still playing it either. Maybe it's just much younger kids who don't have much income and know that GTA will give them literally thousands of hours of content if they want it.

Yeah, it was clear GTAO wasn't meant to be a huge thing, but it ended up being so.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next GTA is completely online, or there is an MMO GTA being developed along with VI.

[–]codeswinwars [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

No way. GTAO is big but V has shipped over 70 million copies. Even if only 10% of players bought it mainly for the single player (and it's way, way more than that) it would be worth making. No matter how successful GTAO is, they're not going to not make a sequel to one of the biggest games of all time. You might see them build a whole new and separate team, but Take-Two need GTA offline and online.

I really hated how much work you had to put into the game just to get some of the cooler cars. I had a lot of fun driving around the city, but I had to spend a ton of time doing stuff I didn't care for as much just to afford the cooler cars. Eventually I just bought FH3 since there's not much of a grind and I never have to worry about dying or wrecking my car.

[–]IceBreak [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Nothing like not being able to keep a car you steal online because it's worth more than 50k (which is still less than some outfits) in a game called Grand Theft Auto Online.

Imagine all this online focus from Rockstar with a non-microtransnational focus. It would be incredible. And the Casino (ironically) would be open by now, I bet.

RDR2 worries me so much now...

I played legit in GTA until after I acquired my Yacht. At least 20 million in total. Then I duped 30+ million. I enjoyed the latter more. GTA is most fun when not making money but when you do try to make money fuck doing it Rockstar's way. The game satirizes everything but has itself become fodder for one in a lot of ways.

[–]santacruisin [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Glitching cash through dupes is the best way to go. The money doesn't last forever, but it allows you to setup the most profitable businesses and make the grind more varied and interesting.

[–]Magnon [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Rockstar was a company that I could count on one hand for delivering quick sequels (or excellent expansions, in the case of gta4/rdr) that were top notch quality. Now they've abandoned single player so they can line their pockets by creating a really obvious skinner box with microtransactions. They used to be someone I would consider as good as I consider CDPR today, but they're basically on track to become ubisoft or activision. It's really saddening seeing a company that represents my childhood go to complete greedy shit.

[–]Reddittoomuch [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I think Rockstar also needs competition. Thats the biggest idea I can think of. Why would they chose to be better when GTA5 dominates that space (online car/gunplay/random nonsense/ with friends)?

I dont even know of any Early Access or vaporware titles even coming into this field. And if someone mentions APB, lets be honest, at least GTA5 feels like a polished AAA game wheares APB just feels like...meh

Man, I really hope third party multiplayer shows up for this game. I shouldn't have had a better experience with san andreas multiplayer than I did with this game, let alone a better experience with grand theft auto 4's official multiplayer.

[–]FatCatFart [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Rockstar has gone after 3rd party multiplayer providers with a vengeance since they have hundreds of millions on the line now.

I played samp/mta for years. I really wanted gta online to be samp/mta 2.

I know prices are insane and a joke but 30k+ repair cost for the cars?

how does the Video creator drive.

when i drive like total crap i have 5-10k max but usually its like 0-1.5k

[–]Manic020 [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

You can also bring your vehicle back into your garage, immediately drive it back out and it'll be fixed for free. Dude in the video just doesn't know how to play the game.

[–]santacruisin [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Or he's intentionally misrepresenting the game to make a "controversial" video that gets more views and ends up on reddit.

[–]IceBlast24 [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Such a freaking shame that Rockstar has been eaten up by the greed for money. I mean it's understandable to follow the method that produces more profit for your company but when you do so, also provide a way for your players that can't afford microtransactions to still enjoy the game they paid AAA-level price on and maybe provide something like higher payouts, servers that don't rely on a peer to peer system and such. Yes there are free updates which are great to be honest but when a large amount of your players can't even afford or have a reasonable means to grind out the money for a way to earn up money to afford the DLC stuff/property, it's not fun anymore.
