With all the premade food you can get these dinners and her comments about "slaving" remind me of this old commercial. https://youtu.be/MWZXoGZijH4

LOL, this wasn't even at THAT (trivial) level of "work."

I mean seriously -- Poe's Law here -- maybe she was purposefully trying to be self-deprecatingly "ironic" about the fact that she DIDN'T put herself out (at all).

But if so, well she said it in such a dead-pan straight/serious manner (with the whole "whoof" as if she was SOOOO tired by all the work) ... that and the fact that no one else "laughed" or made any jokes or sarcastic/snide response about it; leads me to believe that she truly DID feeeeeel/belieeeeeve that she had somehow "slaved away."

I just find it rather sadly/pathetically "ironic" -- I mean even up until a decade ago, that kind of a meal (again especially for a major "holiday" meal, and THE major "family" gathering) would have been a sort of "embarrassment" and presented quasi-apologetically (i.e. "so sorry, but... overworked by something something something" that they just "didn't have time" and so "stopped and got a deli-cooked/sliced ham" and they "hoped everyone was OK with that" and etc).

This wasn't presented in that way AT ALL -- it was the opposite -- as if THIS level of (virtually ZERO actual "cooking" or work/effort) was somehow some major accomplishment.

Funnier/sadder yet of course is that this is in a McMansion with one of those "commercial monstrosity" sized kitchens with the huge "island" thingee (and massive commercial fridge, latest cookstop stoves {multiple stoves & ovens} and everything else -- but something tells me that the most extensive "cooking" that has ever actually gone on in the place is heating up some "take & bake" pizza.
