Heaviest man to ever throw a touchdown pass.

He has been reported to be the first player in NFL history to record a sack as well as a touchdown pass in the same season. He scores on the run too. I assume he is the first to have a sack, a TD pass and a rush TD in the same season as well.

TD rush this season.

He became the heaviest player to score a rushing TD on this play last year.

So... you're telling me a 346 pounds (157kgs) guy jumped on top of a pile of men ?

I feel for the guy being at the very bottom.

The tv commentators all took the "over" on his weight being 346.

I read some where that when the pats drafted and signed Big Vince, there was a clause that if he gain weight out (out fear that he would get lazy) he would get fined.

Well Big Vince got bigger, but stayed so dominate that Bill just decided he didnt want to fine him so they kept his listed weight at 325

the only time height and weight data is collected is at the Combine... which is why every single NFL player weighs more than what's reported

For the combine too you train specifically for speed and it's straight out of college before they have access to NFL trainers so guys can have a difference of 30-40 lbs between the combine and their playing weight, even if it's a QB.

I think thats what gets lost for most football fans. Those huge 350+lb lineman that look so fucking slow? They're faster than you also.

The problem is they're surrounded by players half their weight who all run 4.4-40's and make the lineman look like they're barely moving. Most average joe's can't even fathom how fast a 4.4- 40yd dash is.

Nfl players mostly train for technique and explosion but they're such incredible natural athletes that they're still able to pull off stuff that most people can't. The guy in the video ran a sub 5 second 40 which is probably faster than anyone commenting here. Vince Wilfork is a similar size and can dunk a basketball. I've also seen a video of a similar sized lineman, can't remember his name, walking on his hands. What I'm trying to say is they're barely human.

Athlete here. Former college basketball player. 4.6 40. There are likely plenty or people that can run a sub 5 40 here. Anyone thats played sports at a high level, and alot runners could do it. Whats impressive is how athletic NFL players his size really are. Most people have no concept of just how explosive NFL players are. Even a so-called fat guy.

Red leader here, made the Kessel run in sub 40. Most pilots worth their salt can do that it's just crazy how.. . I'm drunk

Yea, the 40 really isn't solely an indicator of speed, but really of explosiveness. Just learning how to start correctly and take my initial strides took a full 0.4-0.5 seconds off my 40 time. But again, I was probably 205 tops in high school, one of the better athletes on my team, and still only topped out at a 4.7something.

The scariest part about this isn't top speed, but how fast 346 pounds can get moving. It's like an 18 wheeler with the acceleration of a V8 Mustang. It's no wonder something that can generate that much force that quickly can just blow through an offensive lineman.

Yeah I would say the average high school varsity-level athlete could run a sub 5.0 40

I was a non-athlete but quick in high school-- the kid who's usually the fastest in gym class. I tested my 40 time at a little over 5 seconds. I weighed 130 pounds.

Basically, this ~350 pound dude is also fast enough to chase down just about every man, woman, and child you know.

The AVERAGE size of an NFL lineman is 6'5" 310 pounds. Pause for a moment to think of you know anyone that big.

Soccer players don't take the same running tests as NFL players, but here is an article suggesting that Christiano Ronaldo would run a 40 yard dash in something like 5.28 seconds, which is pretty fast (try it sometime).

Many NFL linemen beat this time, and many run it in less than 5 seconds. So you've got a guy who weighs over 300 pounds who can run as fast as a soccer forward. They're also strong, can jump, are agile, etc.

Edit: Ok, ok, I get that Ronaldo running the 40 in 5.28 is probably not accurate. Even if it runs it in 5.0 or 4.8 or something, there are NFL linemen who weigh 150-200 pounds more than him that can run it at almost the same speed (some linemen can beat 5.0 seconds). And I'm guessing Ronaldo can't bench press 225 once much less 20-40 times.

And this isn't to say that NFL linemen are "better" than Ronaldo in any way but the point is that these guys are huge, strong AND fast.

I would think Ronaldo can run a 40 under 5 seconds. Someone as in-shape as he is running over 5 seconds seems absurd to me.

Just want to say that there is no way Ronaldo runs a 5.3 40. Players do a lot of technique training for the combine to get their form down, and form is hugely important to short distance run times. If Ronaldo and probably even Rich Eisen actually trained, they would cut huge amount of times off their 40. Obviously no way to test, but I'd be surprised if prime Ronaldo ran above a 4.5 and he probably was even lower.

prime ronaldo probably runs in the 4.55 - 4.60 range.

I played college soccer. Almost every player on my team ran a sub-5.0 40, with the fastest guys running 4.5-4.6. And I absolutely guarantee that Ronaldo is faster than all of us were. And that "article" you quoted is complete garbage lol

What are times for NFL players running 25m? The logic in this is so faulty. The slowest part of a dash is getting up to speed. Projecting a 40yard time off m/s ran in a 25m dash doesn't account for being at full speed the last 13 yards (or 1/3 of the total distance). It would make sense if he was miraculously coming to a near stop at yard 27 and accelerating back up to full speed again.

tl;dr: The suggestion that Ronaldo would run a 40 in 5.28 is bullshit.

but here is an article suggesting that Christiano Ronaldo would run a 40 yard dash in something like 5.28 seconds, which is pretty fast (try it sometime).

If you made this play with 5 seconds left on the clock and you need the score to win then everybody would go wild. Doing it with 1:53 left on the clock in the 4th quarter and you're well ahead on the score board makes it a joke play that you imagine they wouldn't do if anything was on the line and that makes it disrespectful.

I mean, you do what you do to get points. It got them the 6 points, therefore its a valid option right?

The only people disrespected are the defence who couldn't stop it.

I find it hilarious that people might think this sort of play is disrespectful - but the constant trash talking and trying to wind up your opponent to get an advantage is fine.

I think it's similar to that penalty pass Barca did - they think it's unnecessary humiliation. But if it works, then it's just exciting outside the box thinking

It is not inherently disrespectful, but within the culture of sports, it is seen as incredibly disrespectful. I personally view it as hilarious but your view -- my view -- as people not living within that culture doesn't really matter.

This is akin to saying people in burkas look weird. Well yes, because I don't wear a burka, and none of my friends or family wear burkas. But if you go to a Muslim nation that requires them, the women without the burkas are the ones that stand out.

The culture of sport has many unspoken agreements that tend to be adhered to, and not running up the score (except for in college football) is one of them. There is a silent agreement between both teams to not run up the score before the game even starts, to ensure neither side has to suffer the embarrassment.

So when someone breaks that silent pact, it sticks out like a sore thumb and you begin to question the motives of the coach calls the play, or in other cases the Quarterback who audibles out of a play to run the score up. Coaches are usually settling some grudge, and Quarterbacks are usually riding their egos into the sunset.

Either way, it's a really dumb thing to do because football is very much a sport of momentum because of the sheer number of personalities on both teams that you have to manage each game. Running up the score can cause a split in the locker room and demoralize your own team, or paint a huge target on someone's back that's on your own team. All of the players in the league belong to the same club and they all know what the silent agreements are. In the next game, some other players on the opposing team might use this slight to pump themselves up more.

In general, you don't really want to make waves in the NFL. Don't know why the Chiefs decided to run this trick play at the end of the regular season while they were up big instead of saving it for the playoffs, but it will probably come back to bite them in some way or another.

Sure it's a valid option.

But of the wide variety of plays they could have chosen, going this route is definitely the ultimate disrespect. Especially when they could just kick a field goal and call it a day.

I think its a good way to show future opponents that you have tricks up your sleeve and they need to prepare for everything. Andy Reid is somewhat known for poor, predictable play calling. I dont see anything wrong with it.

Why would you want to give them that hint? Waiting to reveal this play until you actually need the points, perhaps in a playoff matchup, would likely have been just as successful as this. Now they've lost the element of surprise. Unless, of course, they have a whole suite of plays drawn up for this formation and this play-call was meant to set something else up. Guess we'll see if there's anything extra they have up their sleeves for the playoffs.

It's not like the rest of the game matters anyway. Should both teams just keep taking knees and run the rest of the clock? Might as well do something fun in the no fun league when you get a chance.

For people that are playing to have fun, it is. The paycheck kinda offsets this, they are entertainers. If they cant perform to a certain level, or they just just happen to be up enough to have a little fun they usually dont have, i dont see why not. Its not like they are tea bagging anyone.

The Kansas City Offense literally gets paid millions to score points. That is their one job and that is why the general manager signed contracts for every one of those players on the field. The perceived disrespect is meaningless.

Seening offensive/defensive linemen do skill position stuff is the most satisfying thing in football

Such an awesome player. I love how the Chiefs run plays with him. I think it is a bit of fat man love courtesy of Andy Reid.

All I could think about, with his fade-away-pass, was "Nothing but net."

That was amazing! Also, lol@ "fat guy"

That's Super Bowl 50 Champion hothead douchebag defense to you

Football ignorant person from /r/all here.

I was under the impression you were only allowed to throw the ball backwards if you're not the QB. Am I wrong or misunderstanding ?

1) He was the quarterback in that play. 2) Anyone can be the first person to throw the ball forward.

Oh, gotcha. Thanks! I like knowing rules about stuff

Just to clarify #2, you still have to be behind the line of scrimmage to throw it forwards, (which he was of course).

To further clarify, even though a player might be a tight end, quarterback, kicker, center, or whatever else, they can always be put into a play as a different position. It happens a lot more in high school/college football where you'll have a quarterback also be a kicker or someone playing offense and defense in the same game, but is still fairly uncommon.

I am so happy for him. I played defense and always wanted a shot at offensive glory. That must feel amazing.

This is a great play design. Why waste it up a billion with 2 minutes left?

Cuz next time Poe is in the back field the defense has to be ready for anything. It will make it easier for him to just pound it in.

I guess so. Just seems like an automatic goal line touch down with that play, save that thing for the playoffs!

I'm going to be the text book insufferable patriots fan, but the Edelman throw in the ravens playoff game - they called that play off earlier in the year because they didn't want to risk not having the surprise later in the year. Worked like a charm!

Why do ppl bring up his weight like there's some weight restriction involved in being able to throw a football?

Down with the donks!

These big guys in the NFL who generally play at the line of scrimmage, either on offense or defense - they can tend to look a little 'heavy'...but make no mistake. They are, overall, still incredible athletes, in freakish shape. Going up against any random person on the street, they are ludicrously stronger and also, believe it or not, surprisingly faster. Sure, they'll seem slower in comparison to a Safety, WR, Corner or RB...but that's a different body size just a whole other category.
Also, I love how this looks more like a mid-range jumpshot from just outside the paint than it does a traditional football pass from a QB.
