wooow, i dont know if this is a rich school in japan or its just what every school is like but this would definitly make me come to my highschool festivals, it looks fun and it looks like theres actually many things to do, in my school, it feels as if you're being dragged and you are forced to do that certain activity.

Soo cool! Wow! Fascinating! In my highschool there isn't any festivals whatsoever xD Although there is a day in May called 'the olimpics' in which we compete against other highschools in the region. Pretty fun but not as cool as this ^^' Btw i live in Spain not that anyone cares xD

This reminds me of Field Day. Although we didn't have big group dance numbers. :D Tug-o-war, three-legged racing, chair racing, water balloon toss, etc. and before you ask, I live in the US, so it's not like this kind of stuff doesn't happen here. Still, it looks like a lot of fun. :)

Oh how I miss the high school days. My school in Malaysia has annual sport festival that last for whole week. I'm lucky that I'm from the smaller city where lands are cheap, and my school is the elite government school, so the school is really big and located beside the beach like a resort, so we has most of the sports you see in Olympics, and we also have marathon that goes through the city and beach.
However there's not much games like in this video. No complaints though. I came to appreciate what I had, after reading so many comments talking about how their school are like hell. Haha.

My school has this thing called "Fitness Day Extravaganza", but it's nothing like that at all X'DD We used to go to the park (back when it was just called "Fitness Day"(we haven't gone in the last 2 years) for the whole day and chill out! This year, though, they decided to do like an actual sports competition type of thing...but it was really set up in a stupid way because my school is both middle school and high school, so ms went first and then hs would go after (our yard is super small).....obviously we as high-schoolers waiting for the middle-schoolers got bored, so I called my mom to pick me up early bc most of the "sports" were irrelevant (there was even a booth that talked about the facts of my school....not even related to sports whatsoever....) If I went to this school (or any in Japan that was bigger than mine), I would've had more fun doing this kind of thing....oh well....

i am live at indonesia... in my school there're sport festival every 6 months and culture festival every year. All organization will participate on culture festival. I am part of Japan Club and we have Obake every year.. and when sport festival every class have their own themes. Although our festival no fancy like japan but it's still fun :D

No offense, but as an average european, I find the whole thing so cringy. It really shows the cultural difference between the western world and Asian countries ; I would'nt consider any highschool around here doing this kind of fun event. Fascinating !

I hated my high school sports days for the most part, cause there was just lots of flirting going on really -__- However, at my second high school (I transferred from another school at some point), I did enjoy the cheerleading portion of the event- it was entertaining. Otherwise, sports days are just bleh, definitely not as fun and high-energy as sports festivals like this.

This made me want to go to a Japanese high school.. I mean, i come from Hong Kong but high school here is pretty boring. We only have sports day but not sports festivals like this. Just watching your videos shows that high school life there seems really worth it. I dont like high school here but this video changed my mind about high school just a bit. Just for you want to know about school in Japan (also studying here and staying for a year so..)
Elementary's uniform is anything, like you can dress anything as long you keep the cap or what is important that will remind people you are from that school. (my grade 1 brother needs to wear cap to go to school so I think it's different to same places or school)
Junior Highschools (7-9) wear long skirts (ribbon is important to my school)
Highschoolers or like College idk wear short skirts and high socks or short socks depends.
Schools in Japan are free, they work for government. School is going to serve the food, I think on College they make おべんとs or lunchboxes on their own.
There are butt-loads of events for school.
Lastly, English here are basics you can totally A that. Or if you can't read Japanese and it says you need to translate it into English. It's a sign you need to study 3 writing idk (e.g., hiragana, katakana and kanji)

This makes me want to cry. I saw one person's comment talking about how shitty and boring their school is and I kind of understand. If you compare a pep rally to a festival our things are a little less interesting than theirs. I mean they actually go outside, they get their students to work together to actually put the whole festival together. In America (at least at the two schools I've been to) the pep rallies aren't always that great. Before pep rallies we have spirit week which has us dress up for "spirit points." One of the days (at my old school) we had crazy socks day. Then after that on the last day we have a pep rally that not everyone gets to participate in (again depending on what school you go to) and a few games. None of this takes place outside. It makes me a little sad. But hey you always want what you don't have.

My school is more rowdier for the upper primary we are allowed to put face paint , masks and hair spray according to our house colours and I love the cheer competition when all the houses and house masters will cheer as loud as they can to win the competition

I remember my school district allowing us to have field days in elementary school, it would always happen on a Friday. It's basically where we have some races and bouncy houses and would be allowed to just run around the field playing. Totally sucks that field day stopped once you're in middle school, it was so much fun! <3

I understand where alot of you guys are coming from but to say that your country's schools are boring and shitty means that you only have one hobby. Hentai/anime. And even then you would still have some things to do after school. Wanting to visit or live in Japan is okay but saying that your country is shit compared to Japan makes you delusional. Japan isn't perfect. Being otaku over there is an insult. If you say that your schools are so shitty compared to Japan I guarantee that you don't do any after school activities. Japanese life isn't anime. Some of the "men" there would rather play Yu-Gi-Oh than talk to women (source:documentaries). Not to stereotype. I don't hate Japan. I LOVE anime and I used to hate American schools but I realized the problem. ME. I wasn't going out. I wasn't talking to people because they didn't share my hobbies. Now I LOVE my school.

ATTENTION This is a rant about your stupid rant.
Saying your school is boring/ shitty doesn't mean you only like anime/hentai, that makes no sense. When I was in High School everyone that I knew that wasn't originally from my town said that our school was shitty and not a single one of them was an anime fan, I also hated it for the most part but I was never really one to complain. I say that my school was shitty compared to the one in this video and I did do after school activities. I also like the quotations "men" you threw in there as in, if getting women isn't your main goal in life your not really a man, I hate talking to women or anyone for that matter, its called being introverted, in school sports and video games were what I lived for and I had little to no interest in building relationships with anyone, now that I am out of school I work a meaningless job all of the time and when I am done I might play video games or watch anime because that is what makes me feel satisfied, even now I have no interest in socializing with most people, some day it would be nice to find a woman to share ideas with to be able to learn more and potentially build a family with but right now the only thing I would get out of it would be sex which I would gain nothing from aside from a moment of pleasure. Everything in the world is set to cater to extroverted people (and I do mean world, Japan is obviously a very pro extrovert place) and the amount of extroverted people compared to the amount of introverted people is so much greater now that being an introvert is looked at as being some king of freak, because how could anyone possibly prefer to be alone, well, there is only one explanation they must be fucked up because whats important in life is making money and then spending that money hanging out with a bunch of people that deep down you don't really care about. As far as I know there is no place left in the world where someone can live a life of solitude, you have to deal with people no matter where you live or what you do. Try to look at things from a different point of view and maybe you will be able to see why they are the way they are (but not usually most people are fucked up), people are different and some people are loners, can you explain to me why that is so wrong?

After school activities were non existent but After school programs were fun. Once you get to High School, you get more opportunities. Sports, clubs, and just plain fun. Idk what school you go to that doesn't try to make school fun. Didn't you have a Freshman Field Day? This is basically a Freshman Field Day. What about Christmas shows or plays? How about Black History month? There are plenty of things to do after school. Now tell me what do you usually after school.

ATTENTION This is a rant!
I understand where alot of you guys are coming from but to say that your country's schools are boring and shitty means that you only have one hobby. Hentai/anime. And even then you would still have some things to do after school. Wanting to visit or live in Japan is okay but saying that your country is shit compared to Japan makes you delusional. Japan isn't perfect. Being otaku over there is an insult. If you say that your schools are so shitty compared to Japan I guarantee that you don't do any after school activities. Japanese life isn't anime. Some of the "men" there would rather play Yu-Gi-Oh than talk to women (source:documentaries). Not to stereotype. I don't hate Japan. I LOVE anime and I used to hate American schools but I realized the problem. ME. I wasn't going out. I wasn't talking to people because they didn't share my hobbies. Now I LOVE my school. During our Junior retreat all of us were in tears because we were raising money for our classmate because he lost his stuff in a fire and we were talking about our dead family members. Socialize. Girls aren't 100 pound 5 ft girls with a Beyonce ass and a 102ZZZ cup size. The culture is amazing but I am African and I won't ever leave that. Sorry for the rant and I'm ready to explain to anybody who misreads this and thinks I'm hating.

A lot of people in the comments were saying that japanese school is better because they do stuff like this and I just realized my school actually has events like this every week. I just don't usually participate too much. The students and teachers dress up and dance and perform, the students do it everyday but the teachers only do it a couple times a year. We have rallies and things like that when it's football seasonfootball is a big deal, a lot of people come to football games and cheer on our schools team. Them there's school dances all the time. The wholes school also comes together to film lip dub videos and take class pictures and stuff and cheer, I remember at the beggining of the year the whole school was on the football field watching as all the teachers did the ice bucket challenge.

I forgot to say I live in the US. I think school in the us is a lot more relaxed than japan and universities here focus more on what clubs/activities students participate in than grades and test scores. That's my opinion anyway

In my school the sport festivals aren't quite like this but we get lots of snacks and we can dance and get to eat earlier then watch a movie then create something ^_^ They usually give away Ipads and money as prizes but sometimes they give us special queue vouchers so you can go to the front of the queue instead of waiting in line with a friend.

I can't say anything for the rest of the school days but sports day in Japan looks fun! They have fun games plus the classes all dressed up in their class themes. My school's sports day just consists of soccer and a game against teachers while no one in the school would dress up for fun!

Do you actually have culture festivals in the school where you pick a thing for your class to do or is that just an anime thing? If you do, don't pick maid cafe or haunted house! (It's overrated :P)

Nooooooo... This only happens once a year, after that STUDIES STUDIES STUDIES!! So much studying your friends don't even HAVE time to hang out at ALL! There will be the rarest moment where there is a sliver of fun slipped into your schedule! Even Christmas there is school people even go to school during SUMMER VACATION!!! Trust me, if you love studying and don't mind studying hardcore and having no time for even yourself, a Japanese school is best to go. But if you want time for your self,friends Japanese schools aren't the way to go. Japan is at its best when going there for a vacation though, I mustn't lie.

I attended two schools in my entire life. One was in Argentina and the other was in USA. I'm gonna be honest, the school in Argentina was better, it had an exciting sport festival like the one that is shown in the video, but in USA school was so boring. If I have to chose I'll say school in Argentina was 100 times better than the one in USA.
If you are from America of course your gonna think that any school is better that the one you are attending.

In my state (Minnesota) and in my school district we have "track and field" where we played lots of different things like tug of war, three legged race, relay race, and other silly competitions. (I once got first place in a shoe kicking contest.) We all through kindergarten (age:5+6) to 8th grade (age: 13+14)

Hi! I'm Spanish and at least at the two schools I attended, in one we competed against everyone and won a medal (it wasn't even funny like this vid shows) and at the one that I currently am, there are some sports competitions the last day of each term but it's not compulsory so only a few ppl participate. So answering to you, at least where I live we don't do these sports festivals (sadly).

At my elementary school, in The United States, we had a "field day" where students would participate in tug-o-war, kickball, baton races, etc. :)

I also have "field day" here in America but nobody likes its. It's not fun after you get out of elementary. :( The teachers don't give you much to do.

I think it really depends where your at and whether or not your country encourages recreational activites outside of school. The US has too much internal bureaucratic nonesense and greed to ry pour funds into its citizens. Then again here in the US it depends on your school really something like this in the video would have been done in Elementary school.

Wow Japan's sports festivals are so cool! There are such cool and fun games like that last one with the giant grey thing and they had to jump over it! THATS SO AWESOME! I live in the UK so it usually always rains on my sports day and we just have the usuals like relay and stuff, not very exciting to be honest...Haha

Just pitching my point, but people commenting things along the lines of, 'Japanese schools looks so fun, my school is boring' aren't considering so many different outlooks. This is a snapshot of the school life, which you're comparing to this idealised version of Japanese school life you have because of your lack of exposure and understanding of the culture. You may think you understand, but schools are educational institutions, and their methods of teaching are strict no matter where you are. Also, assuming this is the standard of schooling in Japan is ridiculous, any hardships, adversities and corruption of the school you wouldn't know because it's not shown. Be happy that you have the privilege of having an education. :)

WOW that was the largest tug of war i've ever seen...and don't know what that game was where they had to take each other's caps off but it was sooo freakin fun we were yelling along with the crowd lol red caps did NOT go down easy. Refreshing change from the usual j-vlog routine videos. Love your channel Sakura!

School sports festival is my favourite since i'm myself loves sports, here in my country we called it sports day (basically the same as sports festival) but we make it like two days, on the first day is the serious part, it's for the people whom qualifies to compete in sports such as track events, shot put, long jump, high jump, badminton, football(soccer), and many more, we compete to win medals and will be given on the second day. On the second day is the fun part where we take part in fun sports just like in the video (where winning is just a bonus, it's the fun that matters) and we also have the teachers to join in the fun. School sports day is my favourite.

Everyone saying that the school in them country is bad and that they don't have such festivals. I live in germany and we have often such festivals, kinda 3 times in a school year. And the school starts here at 7:30 or 08:00 until 12:00 or 15:30, to read how bad the school on other countys is makes me think that i have luck to live in germany where the school seems really calm, fun and good :)

+Bob Western schools are a lot more fun. People seem to think this festival was representative of every day at school. In reality, none of the students had any time to themselves. They were at school from 7:30am-6:00pm or later, some even came at 6am. Then, they went home and studied until 1am, slept until 5 and repeated every day. I hung out with friends almost never because they were always busy with school even on weekends. Even on summer break, they went to school every day. It was horrible, none of them had a life. Kids in Canada/America have amazing summer holidays, get out of school early, hang out with friends all the time... we had school on Christmas in Japan. School in Japan is not fun.

I live in France and we don't have any festivals like that x) We don't have “部活” or any activities ... Oh yes, in my school we have a carnaval, it always rain and we have lessons as always : annoying. French schools don't know how to be fun and teach. The only thing that every student think is to runaway outside after 7 hours of lessons. Compared to high school in Japan ... It's pretty sad ^^'

i always get curious what school is like in other country. in my country, philippines, we have 5 days per week 7 am to 3 pm. We also have clubs and theres this day called club day (once every other week) wherein clubs are allowed to meet for a certain period of time. we also have three day sport fest same with japan but its for three days. we have a lot of programs (family day,christmas party etc).For me school was not boring lol we usually play different games like charades etc that is related to the topic before lecturing and sometimes teachers give "free time" to students and we are allowed to watch a movie inside the classroom during class hours! i miss highschool :((( SOOO HOW IS YOUR SCHOOL?

+Anne Manuela my high school had many events due to holidays in my country, Indonesia. such as christmas , eid adha, eid fitr, and national independence day. during eid adha, christmas, we had social activities to feed poor people. eid adha we had traditional food festivals (that's sooo much fun!) every class was participating in to present the most delicate traditional indonesian food. after events we can get some food from it :P (it's free! lol). during independence day, we had many sports events, football, badminton etc. sometimes there were events held by a club or organisation not due to holidays. NOW, ...
i missed them :(
