Fire destroyed everything - no renters insurance (self.bestoflegaladvice)

My sister's apartment burnt to the ground destroying everything inside. 4 apartment complex in Boston, MA. The fire wasn't her/roommates fault but they don't have renters insurance. Can they get compensation from the owner of the building OR is it too bad so sad?

When this happens I like to assume OP saw both subs and figured why not go to the bestof while laughing at all the rubes who waste their time at standard legal advice.

Was this the big North End fire last night?
Your sister may be out of luck to be honest, though perhaps if they find the tenant responsible and they had renters insurance, she could receive some of that, if not sue the person for damages from her negligence. The actual legal advice forum would be the place to start
