Letter:

Donald Trump will never 'do the right thing'

If I understand matters correctly, there is no constitutional mandate or federal law that requires a president-elect to divest any of his financial assets, simply because of potential conflicts of interest. It would simply be the “right thing to do,” on a voluntary basis. However, doing the right thing requires courage, a conscience and moral fiber.

Donald Trump ran on a platform of lies and abusive speech. His behavior throughout the presidential campaign was appalling. The right thing to do would have been to campaign honestly and respectfully; he intentionally chose not to do so.

Of course, he has the option to “take the high road” in this matter, but based on previous behavior, no one should be surprised if he doesn’t.

Nothing has changed since the election. You get what you vote for.
