Some fans say that lukaku would be a good 'replacement' for Zlatan. I personally think Lukaku is kind of shite.

Lots of people think this way, but the amoung of goals he has scored is incredible for his age.

I admit I use age myself but really I think most of us use it meaning inexperienced, Lukaku because of his physique has been playing top level football since he was 16 and is in his 6th season in the EPL playing regularly in five of them. I've seen many Efc fans saying he's not getting much better and I understand that, after five full seasons he should pretty much have learned all the main stuff, did we give Rooney or Owen a break when they were 23 and say Oh it's ok they're young, no cos they'd been around so long, imo he's not much better than Benteke and isn't going to improve any more than any other player does as they get older, just small improvement and as he is now I don't think he's good enough for us.

I see him as a good striker for a certain kind of club. Doesn't seem to have the mindset you need to set the world alight, or there hasn't been a manager capable of exploding his personal mindset to turn him into a world-class striker.

Griezmann won't fit our team.

We have enough attackers, would love for him to join but we'd have to lose someone first

ibra will stay at most one more year, so i dont see the problem.

Completely different players, Griezmann won't be able to play Ibra's role in the team. The only way Griezmann fits is if plays on the wing but then you're spending 85 million to play someone in a position they aren't as good in.

I'd love Griezmann at United. However if we are to buy him it has to because he fits our system.

Hardly unpopular, many realise the difficulty in fitting him and Pogba in the same team

You're wrong. A lot of people feel we could just buy him and play him on the wing.

[–]MatthewXuI saw the white Pele 0

Every time he's mentioned I feel like there's a comment on how he wouldn't fit our team. Just because many people think he'd work on the wing doesn't necessarily mean it's unpopular to think he won't

An unpopular opinion is that of the minority. Most United fans would want him regardless so that's a popular opinion. Me not wanting him because he doesn't fit our current system is an unpopular opinion.

Blind wasn't given a fair enough chance at DM, and if given the chance now, in a team that is playing much better, he would do a fine job.

Don't think he's on Carrick's level there but definitely our 2nd best dm imo

Well since his only competition is Carrick and TFM I dont think that really means much.

Schneiderlin (for the time being) and Schweinsteiger can play dm. Herrera's played their on occasion as well

And none of them are proper defensive midfielders so my point still stands, two of them can't even get in the team so Blind in his prefered position being better at it means FA, sorry to bust all you Blind lovers bubbles but Jose even prefered Fellaini there, another player who isn't a proper DM, that says it all.

He's not played in midfield for absolutely ages, I think it's well worth a shot. Blind has flaws to his game of course but he seems the kind of player that would adapt and pick up new skills

We could do with a better right back than Valencia. He's consistent and reliable, defends pretty well and gets forward often but someone with a bit more guile could contribute a lot more in offence. He's done well for himself the past couple of years and would be a very able backup of course but I can't help but feel he's reached his ceiling.

Whether there's anybody available is another question of course, and it's not a situation that needs addressing urgently

Depends on what you think "better" is. We even have an example right here at Man United: is Darmian a "better" right-back than Valencia?

If you bring in Darmian, you'll sacrifice Valencia's physicality, speed, courage, no-nonsense approach, stamina, and never-say-die attitude.

If you bring in Valencia, you'll sacrifice Darmian's understanding of the defensive block, a more defensive and conservative approach, and probably better defensive positioning.

Picking players for a squad and for your starting XI is a balancing act; "better than" and "worse than" isn't always as cut and clear at the top level. Is Rooney better than me? Yes. Is Messi better than Rooney? Yes. Is Valencia better than Darmian? It's not as easy answering that.

If you wanted to replace Valencia, you'd have to have a very clear picture of what skills you're looking for in a right back that Valencia lacks, and whether Valencia's skills that you will lose are worth the change.

We definitly could I just wouldn't have it as too priority, if the rumours are true we're after Benficas RB as well for the summer.

Martial will be gone at the end of the season.

I don't want to believe it and I don't want it to happen, just a gut feeling.

We need to replace Valencia and Herrera (don't hate me) if we want to be UCL contenders in the future

[–]TrebolationsJose Mourinho 2

I understand the need to replace Valencia because for all his strengths, his limitations are so annoying. However, why Ander?

Lingard is actually one of our most effective players. He either has a shot on goal or creates a "shot on goal". He is our "Moneyball" type player.

He should be in the front three: Lingard Zlatan Mkhi

Honestly didn't realise this was unpopular, but I was surprised at the negative reaction to it when I posted it a few weeks ago, so let's double down in the unpopular opinion thread and see how we do;

Berbatov and Rooney were not an effective partnership. Both liked to drop deep to come and get the ball in midfield and neither had the pace to stretch the defence by staying on the last shoulder. Mostly they just got in each others way.

Rooney is at his best with pacy strikers who can play on the last shoulder and beat a man for pace, like Ronaldo Saha or Hernandez. Partner him with slow technical players like Berba RVP or Ibra and just block each other off.

I can't really recall Berba and Rooney combining to do anything particularly good in his time here.
