This is the thread in question. Few excerpts
Well, yeah. The more men and women get onto level footing, the harder it becomes to marry up. You don't really get to have both. (Top comment)
..
The report may back up what single women with college degrees have been sensing for years: The pickings are slim."
time to drop your standards
..
Men warned the feminists about this.
"If you marginalize men, who are all these empowered rich, powerful educated women going to marry?"
I can still hear the echoes of their shrieking laughter.
WHO'S TO SAY THEY'RE GOING TO WANT TO MARRY UP? IN A FEMINIST WORLD WITH EQUALITY...
now they're complaining about "no good men".
"Wanting to have your cake and eat it" much?
..
Obviously something is happening to cause so many young boys to not seek higher education. IN any case the system is CLEARLY biased against males and yet nothing is being done to remedy the problem. Boo Hoo you cant get a date, the world doesnt revolve around white middle class female problems.
The optimist in me thinks at least men will get some attention, albeit to solve a female perceived problem.
..
"Do you want to quit your job in your late 20s/early 30s and have a GOOD MAN look after you? INSIST BOYS GET AHEAD."
..
But interestingly, now that women are going to have to consider carrying a man financially, suddenly it's "marriage isn't for me". Unlike previous generations, where everyone was expected to be okay with it when men were slaving away to pay for that 2.5 children and white picket fence women "deserve".
..
Well, now to be fair, and feminist, they need to GIRL UP and start paying
"Well, I could take basket weaving and gender studies, or I could take one with a viable future.... aw, this sucks."
..
Having children is not like paying taxes. I pay taxes for services I either use or indirectly benefit from, and I generally get a really good deal. A few hundred bucks out of my paychecks in my lifetime pays for the roads I drive on everyday. I'm cool with that.
One kid could cost me upwards of a quarter of a million dollars and all of my free time forever. What do I get out of that? A kid. Society gets one more tax payer. Not exactly a good deal for me.
I agree that my motivations are mostly selfish. I want to spend my life traveling, having fun, and building my career. I'll argue forever that there is nothing wrong with creating a life that makes you happy.
Our society is not supportive of children and families. As long as this continues, fertility will continue to decline. Society will evolve or crumble. I'm not going to throw my life away for the sake of societal economics. No one should.
