Fukushima Contaminated Potato Chips Found In Japan
A citizen food testing project found Fukushima related radioactive contamination in a bag of Japanese potato chips. The chips were harvested and manufactured in 2015 with the potatoes coming from Ibaraki and Chiba prefectures. Both prefectures are outside the areas normally flagged by the government as having agriculture at risk of contamination.
Kampu, the testing group found both cesium 134 and 137 in the chips. The potato chip brand, Calbee can be found in Japan and is also sold globally including to the US. Calbee does have a manufacturing plant in the US, so determining what factory made a particular product may be a useful precaution.
