ive just bought it after skipping last years, looking forward to restoring United to their rightful place at the top of the table

You've missed two years? Your in for a shock. Hardest FM game yet. It's not a game where you pick a perfect tactic and go from there. It's totally game to game.

I was United but we have too good a squad (in fm at least) and too much to spend. But it's a great game.

I thought this at first, but now I've got a set tactic where I only make minor tweaks. It is a bit too easy as Utd though. After 4 seasons I won PL x 3, FA Cup x 2, 2 x UCL (back to back).

I have £230m to spend and I don't even need to sign people.

Bit off-topic but you ever get Carrick playing good? I know I've had trouble with that for the past 2-3 FMs, haven't played as much with United in this one. I always do better with a Behrami/Schneiderlin type of defensive midfielder, might be my tactics

He was average for the season I had him, released/he retired after one year as I was gonna put TFM in.

His average was about 6.80 which in my eyes is pretty average but could be because of his age and his assigned role.

Edit: I also had issues in other FMs in that sense too.

I sold him after my first season. I do find you definitely need a destroyer type midfielder though

I just let him go, as with the majority of our older players now Mkhi is my older player at 31 and probably won't renew his contract in two years, Schweisteiger the next year, the Rooney the next. Thought I'd made savings on the wage budget but TFM was literally asking for a new contract every 6 months now he's on £200k flat wage p/w.

Is use TFM in the BWM role in my three with Herrera and Pogba, rotate him when I play a two and when I set up defensively he's my Anchor Man. Was gonna buy Boazer but went with TFM instead.

Did you make him sack his agent? Unfortunately due to injuries I tried to make TFM a jack of all trades, he's still very good but think he could have been better.

Gribbin is doing great for me, Gomes is doing well and I have regen keeper who is decent.

Yeah and I got the bullshit reply hahaha. I mainly used him as CB but also a RB and Cm in my first season due to being stacked in CM but after selling Fellaini in Jan, Schneiderlin in the summer and Carrick retiring I kept him as a midfielder.

Gribbins barely features for me but when I do give him a game or two he normally always scores a free kick. But he's up against some real quality. I've loaned him out to BBurn for the season atm since he's 22 and needs games. But I have so much quality after signing a regen Rabuano whos becoming my best midfielder at 19 that I'll most likely use Gribbin as I do Lingard odd game or two but mainly off the bench. I keep an affinity for the United kids like Lingard, Gribbin, Rash, Williams etc that I don't sell them.

Gomes is doing great for me, he's 20 now and he's my first choice AM when I play 4-2-3-1. He has youngest player and scorer for us on my save. I just want him to start adding more goals to his game since Ibra retired they've dried up a bit with Martial up top he doesn't get as many as I think he should, Griezmann mainly as a RW is my main goalscorer atm. Think I might have to switch up my tactics see if I can solve the issues.

I ended up with about £300m in the bank after that time as well but because I bought some quality wonder kids I didn't need it either.

Edit: Has Jose got another job yet on yours? Hes been jobless since I took his job and I feel bad for him hahaha.

Sorry what do you mean amount of saves I made? I've just had the one game, if you exclude the Everton season where I get sacked, took over Pompey and got sacked from them as well ;D I realised some very obvious flaws in how I was setting teams up.

Not sure about Jose. Klopp got sacked after 12 games because he didn't one, he's now the City manager and doing quite well.

West Ham were my biggest competition they got 88 points in my 3rd season! Welbeck had a blinder for them

Yeah all the top managers got sacked in my game but he's still sitting there unemployed after 4 years.

Fucking West Ham a hate them MF! CL qualifiers for the last three years on my save, won Europa League too. They signed Vietto and he had 20 goals after 8 fucking games, they also beat Ipswich 9-0 too. Something clearly not right on the game judging by how shit they are this season.

I had this problem. Set first week back to average fitness, second week high fitness (never go very high) then after that work on getting tactic fluid as possible.

Haha that's what people say every year.

Then someone comes out with a few tactics that just keep winning. I'm playing as Bournemouth, in 2022 now. I've won every title possible already.

Playing as Man Utd is never fun, it's too easy with a decent tactic. I end up letting my assistant manager do everything during the season and only really take control of transfers.

I am playing the handheld version and currently am in 2022. Haven't bought a player in 2.5 seasons I think. Net spend overall is -160m. We are too effing good on FM!

That's because football manager seems to be too darned easy once you have a good enough squad. You could win the league by stomping through it a few years in a row as well and such.

It lost some of the lure for me several years ago and I was controlling United, Dortmund, Milan and even Spurs I think. Spurs was the most fun back then as I managed to sign Pirlo, Tymochuk, Wijnaldum I think and a few others through instalments and all.

But United became too easy and just a repetitive season after season so I can't feel the urge to play it nowadays.

Yeah, happened to me too - I didn't feel like playing much as United on FM17 so far. You can try the Unemployed challenge if you wanna have fun but you gotta load up a whole lot of leagues. Basically with no coaching badges or footballing experience (besides sunday league maybe) and try to eventually reach a high reputation - go to a big club. Definitely entertaining

I'm only a couple of seasons in, but won the title in the first season, mainly because all the other teams kept losing. City finished 10th.

Went after (and got) Dele Alli as Spurs were my main challenger, and already laying the groundwork for Griezmann.

Main signing prior to that was Mario Fernandes from CSKA.
