I recently saw that £600m article, but the fees I saw were horseshit and furthermore I've seen it erroneously quoted on other subs many times. I've also seen people quoting horseshit like £35m for Mhiki, £36m for Herrera or £29m for Schneiderlin. Part of it is using transfermarkt.com, they use fluid exchange rates so the fees you see are linked to the original transfer fee in Euros and converted in the current exchange rate to GBP.
I usually wouldn't care but the cost of our squad and the transfer fees we paid are often used to beat us over with the head with. It's a valid point, and this squad should have been doing much better over the recent years - but at least get the numbers right.
GKs: De Gea (£18m), Romero (free), Johnstone (free)
FB: Shaw (£27m), Darmian (£12.7m), Valencia (£17m), Blind (£13m), Young (£17m)
CB: Smalling (£10m), Bailly (£30m), Rojo (£16m), Jones (16m), Tuanzebe (free)
DM: Carrick (£18.6m), Schweinsteiger (£6m), TFM (free)
CM: Pogba (£89m), Herrera (£27m), Fellaini (27m), Schneiderlin (£24m)
Wingers: Mhiki (£26m), Lingard (free), Mata (£37.1m), Rooney (£27m), Memphis (£22m), Martial (£36m)
ST: Ibra (free), Rashford (free)
I'm aware people like Martial and Mhiki have add-ons but until they hit those I'm not counting them. So I make that £516m. £84m short of the article's claim. Though we will likely reduce it by £112m in the next 6 months by clearing out Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Schneiderlin, Memphis, Young and Rojo. But probably gain about £80m back on Lindelof and a new CM.
