Sure... all it takes is completely ignoring the US Constitution. I don't see how that could go wrong and enable dictators to seize absolute power or anything

Darling if it makes you feel better you're welcome to think this.

When I was a little boy of 10 my beloved German Shepherd/Yellow Lab mix died. His name was Tomás and he was a beautiful and intelligent dog (the kind that didn't need a leash, you could let him out and open the door an hour later and call his name and he would run back in) who had been my best friend since I was born, he would guard my crib and he was known to growl and intimidate anyone who he perceived to be a threat to me as a baby. He just laid down in the little space under the stairs where he always laid down, went to sleep and never woke up.

For almost a month I could not accept that he had died. I thought that he had just went to sleep and he was really tired so my parents took him to another place where he wouldn't be disturbed by me and my siblings (altogether 4 boys all under 10 at the time) making a lot of noise.

It's kind of pathetic for me to think about now, and I think I knew deep down that's Tomás was actually dead but it was my coping mechanism and it kept me from freaking out. It seems to me that you're doing the same thing.

I encourage you to do whatever you need to do to cope, so that you don't have a breakdown or God forbid hurt yourself/someone else. However eventually you're going to have to deal with reality.

Here is the reality:

  • The United States' Constitution empowers the Electoral College to choose the POTUS.

  • The Electors can vote for whoever they want, and it's only by convention and courtesy that they choose the candidate who got the most votes in the state they represent.

  • Therefore, the general election and the popular vote count is essentially no more than a very expensive and drawn out opinion poll.

  • The members of the Electoral College voted for Donald J, Trump to assume the office of POTUS on January 20th 2016. Therefore he is legitimately going to be POTUS as of January 20th 2016.

  • The United States is not a democracy. It has never been a democracy and will never be a democracy. It is a federation of states that have United to become a Republic.

  • To change the Electoral College system and make the legal process for electing the POTUS a majoritarian 1 man/1 vote system you would need to amend the United States' Constitution.

  • To amend the Constitution, you need 2/3 of Congress (66 Senators and 287 Representatives) and 2/3 of the states (34 states). The GOP controls both Houses of Congress, and has full controls the majority of states. The GOP benefits from the current system and is thus disinclined to change it. In addition, several non-GOP swing states will not give up the extra influence and attention they get by virtue of being swing states.

  • Amending the Constitution to abolish the Electoral College is very unlikely because of the facts given above. Even if it was abolished, the amendment wouldn't be ex post facto and Trump's election would be legitimate.

  • Trump is the legitimate POTUS, he will be selecting at least one and up to three SCOTUS justices because of the current vacancy and the advanced age of severs justices. That will make the SCOTUS a conservative body for a generation.

  • The GOP has almost total power to enact their agenda.

  • You are going to have to deal with this eventually and accept defeat.

I will be praying for you.
