Nintendo is the only company to make me want to buy an epic looking Zelda game instead of a 10 year production game from SE. After years of waiting for FFXV I never thought I'd SWITCH options

UltimateGeek Square Enix is a 3rd party producer on the Nintendo Switch, so it's possible that FF15 and FF7 being released on the Switch.
    1
    UltimateGeek
+DonkeyFilms they did say FFXV probably wouldn't be on the switch, and there is no reason to put it on the switch, due to it being released in november, and the switch being released in march
    1
    DonkeyFilms
UltimateGeek soooooo by your logic, a game can't be ported to a console because it releases earlier? Despite its portable accessibility? Makes sense.
    1
    UltimateGeek
+DonkeyFilms why would they release a game for a console when everyone already owns it?

+LINEAGEIIII the game may have been broken at the paris convention, but this has happened to alot of games. Skyward sword was broken at E3 for example. Just because a game fails at 1 convention, that does not mean the entire game will be a failure.

he's gonna be right handed in the final version of the game, it does not affect the gameplay nor does it affect the lore, so it really isn't that big of an issue, nor is it a reason to argue

    Tchukkelz
Yeah it's not a huge deal I just kinda liked it.
    9 10
    UltimateGeek
+Tchukkelz I always thought he was right handed I mean heck, whenever I played with wooden swords and wooden shields as a kid I always had the wooden shield in my right hand and wooden sword in my left hand, although I was right handed
    1 2
    Tchukkelz
+UltimateGeek The only games where he's right handed are the ones with motion controls. Regardless, I'm super hyped for this game and a comment like this is a small nitpick. I just know my lefty friend will be sad to notice Link's hand preference...
    3 4
    UltimateGeek
+Tchukkelz the only game* where he's right handed is skyward sword.
    5 6
    UltimateGeek
+Tchukkelz and I wouldn't say your friend will be sad because he isn't left handed in this game, that's like saying someone will be sad for Link not being a girl in this game
    1
    Froyo The Fighter
Tchukkelz, archers use their non dominant hand for holding the bow and the dominant hand to use the string, so it looks like he's A righty.
    1
    Tchukkelz
I know. He's also holding his sword in his right hand, indicating right-handedness. He also swings his axe right to left, with his right hand higher on the shaft, and with the spear he holds it lower on the shaft with his right hand, both of which imply right hand dominance.
    1
    SkulleD42
He is right-handed in TP for Wii
    1
    UltimateGeek
+SkulleD42 the wii version isn't the "real" version
    1
    SkulleD42
+UltimateGeek Yeah but it counts as well
    1
    UltimateGeek
+SkulleD42 but it isn't the "REAALLLLLL" version as it is mirrored, and thus Link isn't right handed in that game, your argument is invalid
    1 2
    SkulleD42
    +UltimateGeek Ok...
    1
    SkulleD42
+UltimateGeek Then the REALLL version of BotW is the Wii U version?
    1
    UltimateGeek
+SkulleD42 there is no REALLLL version of BotW due to it not being mirrored on the switch.
    1 2
    SkulleD42
+UltimateGeek So there is only one REALL version if the other is mirrored?
    1
    UltimateGeek
+SkulleD42 what I mean with the REALLL version is that the gamecube version is the original version, and the version they decided to go with on the HD remake. Meaning TP isn't actually supposed to be mirrored.
    2 3
    SkulleD42
+UltimateGeek The original BotW was intended to be for Wii U only sooo
    1
    UltimateGeek
    +SkulleD42 yeah but whatevs
    1
    UltimateGeek
+SkulleD42 they didn't mirror it, did they?
    1
    SkulleD42
    +UltimateGeek Nope
    1
    UltimateGeek
    +SkulleD42 exactly.
    1 2
    Archie Aten
it would be cool to change what hand you use
    1
    UltimateGeek
    +Archie Aten won't happen
    1 2
    AJ Grant
Archie Aten That might mess up some puzzles and it might feel awkward since everything is designed for righties
    1
    Hunter Burnette
The hand you use to hold a bow is not dependent on your dominant hand, it's dependent on the dominant eye.
    1
    Froyo The Fighter
    Not really
    1
    Hunter Burnette
Also the reason Link is right handed in this game is because the buttons you use for almost everything are on the right side of the controller.
    1
    Froyo The Fighter
Hunter Burnette, I know. That's why I said.
    1
    Michael Carr
As a lefty, I was a bit disappointed when he was made right-handed in Skyward Sword (and the Wii version of TP), even when I understood why. That said, it feels weird to me to hold a Wii Remote in my left hand and a Nunchuck in my right; I guess I'm just used to having the analog stick on the left. It does strike me as strange that he's a righty in this footage, but maybe the Switch version will support motion controls somehow? Time will tell.
    1
    UltimateGeek
+Michael Carr um, no the switch version won't support motion controls.
    1 2
    ygsr
Tchukkelz I love him as a lefty
    1 2
    UltimateGeek
+Nicktendo 1 or it is because they want to show it's a completely new Link and not one from the downfall timeline or anything
    1
    Nicktendo 1
UltimateGeek That kinda goes with my "for the heck of it" theory. New Link with no motion controls.
    1
    Sergey Martinez
Right, left it realy REALY shouldn't matter like seriously.
    2 3
    UltimateGeek
    +Sergey Martinez exactly
    1
    Legend Holmes
Tchukkelz Link is Ambidextrous, been confirmed by Nintendo.
    1
    Nicktendo 1
    Legend Holmes Where?
    1
    Legend Holmes
Look it up. They probably said that in E3 or something.
    1
    UltimateGeek
+Legend Holmes they never said that....
    3 4
    Jack Sutter
Well, according to Hyrule Historia, the reason Link is right-handed is because in the original LoZ, it was much easier to design sprites for. It just became tradition from then on. It was swapped in Twilight Princess for the Wii and Skyward Sword because they featured motion controls and the majority of the population is right-handed. Since neither the WiiU nor the Switch (if the switch even has motion controls, I don't know) can use their motion controls as a sword, I don't see why they bothered to change his dominant hand. Perhaps Nintendo will attempt to use motion controls for items like the bow, similarly to Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD.
    1
    Kvro Slayer
    uhm no? that'd be dumb
    1
    Legend Holmes
+UltimateGeek actually, Link was created by Miyamotto. Miyamotto is Ambidextrous, meaning that link is basically him because he always wanted to travel around in his childhood. But Miyamotto prefers using his left hand, just like Link.
    1 2
    CA Clark
Yeah I'm going to miss the "left-handed hero" too. It was just one of Link's traits that's been around for awhile. I understand that they had to accommodate for Skyward Sword's motion controls, but will Breath of the Wild have swinging controls using a Wii remote as well?
    1
    Nicktendo 1
CA Clark It's possible, or it's the same link as the one from SS Link.
    1
    UltimateGeek
    +Nicktendo 1 it's not.
    1
    UltimateGeek
+Nicktendo 1 it's not the same LInk as the one from SS Link. I assure you.
    1
    Nicktendo 1
    UltimateGeek It's just a theory.
    1
    UltimateGeek
+Nicktendo 1 except it isn't possible, because this takes place hundreds of years after ocarina of time
    1
    Nicktendo 1
UltimateGeek That's not confirmed. Nothing regarding Timeline placement has been confirmed. It could take place between SS and MC.
    1
    UltimateGeek
+Nicktendo 1 no, it cannot take place in the unified timeline. It has been confirmed, the temple of time and castle town were not built until a bit before ocarina of time, therefore they cannot have fallen before that. The temple of time and castle town from OoT is in this game. It's not before ocarina of time.
    1
    Nicktendo 1
UltimateGeek Hyrule was established between SS and MC, along with the Temple of Time. Do I need to consult Hyrule Historia? Because I know I'm right.
    1
    UltimateGeek
+Nicktendo 1 yes it most certainly was. But, how can it be in ruins and not take place after OoT? ;)
    1
    Nicktendo 1
    UltimateGeek Could've repaired it.
    1
    UltimateGeek
+Nicktendo 1 smiles but then there is the ruins of the entire castle town :) also the master sword is rusted :)
    1
    UltimateGeek
+Nicktendo 1 see there are too many inconsistensies with a placement in the unified timeline :)
    1
    Nicktendo 1
UltimateGeek Both of those things existed between SS and MC. I don't see any inconsistencies here.

I know I'm kind of late but I just had to come back and comment this... 6 years I have waited for a new Zelda game. 6 years. That is the longest gap in between Zelda games in history. It gets me thinking about what the next gap will be, after Breath of the Wild. Maybe they won't focus on remakes and will instead push out the next title in like 3 or 4 years.

UltimateGeek Not even Nintendo knows what to do with the timeline. I think they either did that because they wanted to sell more or because they couldn't figure it out themselves and just slapped it in there. I'm gonna let the people who actually played it decide though, but from my reading you are right. It is sort of a spin off.
    1

+Echocookie well they did slightly think out the timeline while they developed games, they commented on that once I think.
