Ok what's the deal with this movie. All I know is George Clooney. How come so many people love it so much

People love it because it's a good movie. But here are some reasons so many people are drawn to it:

  • Directed by Wes Anderson
  • Based on a novel written by Roald Dahl
  • Beautiful, traditional stop-motion animation
  • Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson
  • Comedy ranging from charming to hilarious, with some weird sprinkled around

Foxes are relatively gentle and timid. While I wouldn't trust a coyote as far as I could throw it, I wouldn't worry about foxes. People tend to think fox are larger than they really are.

What's your record on coyote throwing distance?

But is the coyote 90 kilograms?

But the coyote is the projectile. You got to ask /u/DangerIsMyUsername if he is counterweighted.

Foxes are relatively gentle and timid.

In my personal experience, that is true.

Foxes invaded my house twice, entering through the cat flap. They were given their marching orders by my elder kitty, and left quietly and with the tails between their legs. My feline's ego was at an all times high. Miss you, Inca ❤️

Aww... who was a good kitty?

The biggest threat from fox are that they are often carriers of rabies.

Not much of a problem here, since Britain was declared rabies-free in 1922.

That was also the year when there was the last infected person in the United Kingdom.

But I remember growing up in Italy and, for that very reason, being careful around animals behaving oddly.

Actually not true. A guy here got rabies relatively recently from a bat. Also he was a bat conservation volunteer, which makes me think he probably should have been vaccinated. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-148224/Britons-rabies-nightmare-linked-bat-bite.html

Where do you live?!

United Kingdom. Apparently fox home invasions are rare, but it happened to me twice - both times in the middle of the night.

Last time my cat even took the fox hostage in the bathtub, and I had to confine the kitty away so that the fox could finally leave.

Never a dull moment.

Do UK foxes make noises at night like a human baby screaming in agony? Where I live now in the US has a ton of foxes around, but until I learned what that noise actually was, I was deeply suspicious of my new neighbors.

Oh, yes.

Under my bedroom window is a notorious hook up place for foxes.

I'm happy for them, at least they're getting some, right? ;)

Super curious but timid, and quite possibly the most graceful animals I've ever had the pleasure of observing.

Well with your bad knee, Ed, you shouldn't be throwing any coyotes.

Coyotes are cowardly. They won't attack you unless they're really desperate and you're really sickly.

Remember, coyotes aren't very big either.

Also, they tend to use Acme products to hunt, which aren't very trustworthy.

...and they only hunt Road Runners, so the only danger is being too close when they're using the faulty ACME products

I was told once when they do attack, they attack in packs? Is this true?

I dont know about coyotes, but,

WOLVES HUNT IN PACKS!

No, it's not true, in most cases. Wolves are pack hunters, coyotes are mostly solo scavengers.

Though of course in some places in the US we are getting more coywolves, which are mixes of coyotes and wolves and sometimes dogs. They have the traits of all of the above, so they are both fine being in cities and hunting in packs.

Coyotes are generally loners, but they do sometimes hunt in packs

I'm pretty sure coyotes live in packs as well correct?

It depends on the prey. Mice, rabbits--no. Larger prey they may scavenge in small groups, but I don't think they use nearly as much cooperation/tactics as wolves.

We have them in our yard often, and the trail cam picks them up a lot. We see them in the fields when we are out for our walks. As a rule, you are right. They prefer to not get in a confrontation with people, but in a pack or when they are hungry they are not cowards. They can be quite bold as well.

They have a place in the food chain, and we need them, but I do not trust them which is wise of any wild animal. The ones here are about the size of my dogs (45-60 pound) whereas the fox are about the weight of my fattest kitty

They'll bait you into following one back to several. Watch out for your animals if they're running off a coyote.

I once had a fox. My friend smacked one with his car and it just kinda knocked it delirious. We brought it back to the house and it was rather calm for about 12 hours but then after it took a nap and woke up it went bat shit crazy. We just opened the door and that was the last we ever saw of it.

I've been lucky enough to get to snuggle with a pet coyote.

Very friendly, but she was a total thief if I was holding food. The moment I looked away she would steal my food.

I used to work transporting the deceased to a local funeral home. Several times I've seen beloved dogs and cats eat parts of their owners. It's perfectly understandable.. they do what they have to in order to survive

From speaking to the local coroner through work I got the impression that dogs very rarely eat their dead owner. Apparently it is far more common with cats. Could be something to do with dogs generally being more social pack animals.

Thinking about it, every conversation I have had with the coroner ends up being both interesting and somewhat horrific.

its because they are generally bigger animals with more reserves before they have to resort to such actions

Not just that but not all of us have been on reddit from the beginning and at least half the posts that people get all worked up over being a repost are new to me. Reposts are fine as long as they're not constant reposts from a day or week ago

Serious question because I'm too lazy to check myself: does checking karmadecay show you if someone posted something, it didn't take off, and they deleted it and then posted it again later?

I don't understand what might be bad if he actually does it, but the "accusation" is that GallowBoob deletes posts if they fizzle then tries again later (contributing to the impression that "everything he posts hits the front page.")

My only interest is to understand the "business model" operating here.

Karmadecay only picks up posts automatically if they get over a certain threshold, or if someone karmadecays a reddit thread to create a link between that specific image thumbnail and that thread.

However, we also have a different database that uses more frames than just the thumbnail to check for reposts, and saves all things posted even if it was removed by automoderator. So it would not be possible for Gallowboob to do the delete and repost that he used to do before, without us discovering it and eventually banning.

Is it really unwise to have a Fox? Cus they look so gawd damn awesome.

usually: yes.

afaik the only foxes where it could be considered okay to live with them as pets are those few that got hurt, taken in by some rescue organization but for some reason can't be returned to the wild.

although afaik even worse than outright having a fox as a "pet" is (personally) feeding wild foxes. because the lack of fear that might result can turn out to be very dangerous for them.

super cute Dawn the fox:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iw3bK_zFGoc

This is Dawn, one of the Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary's 6 resident foxes that cannot be returned to the wild. The majority of animals we get in is injured wildlife that is aimed to be returned into the wild, however, Dawn was a young fox that was took into a dog rescue centre as the member of public that found her thought she was a dog! When they realised they bought her into us but it was too late, because she was too tame and this meant that she wouldn't be able to look after herself in the wild. Dawn is not a pet, and we do not recommend any fox or wild animal as a pet.

and that's coming from people that actually run a wildlife sanctuary.

Conversely, a Russian research team has been selectively breeding foxes for the last however many years, and they're practically like dogs. Unless you have thousands of dollars laying around, good luck getting one though.

They are NOT near the level of dogs yet, and likely won't be for some time yet. They are about as good as livestock are.

A wild fox? Yes, absolutely, 100% bad idea.

There are some domesticated foxes, but they still aren't the greatest "pets" for most living situations. Domesticated doesn't mean housebroken -they can still tear up your furniture, piss/shit everywhere, smell bad, and need outdoor space to run around in. Livestock are domesticated, but you're not likely to want a goat living in your tiny apartment (and the city won't like it either, neither will your neighbors). They aren't to the level of dogs yet, or even cats. They are also going to cost you a LOT of money. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend ANYONE get a pet just because it "looks so gawd damn awesome", that's a selfish reason to bring a living being with a ton of responsibility into your life. Pets are not accessories to your life.
