Info from licensor: "A group of hunters got together to help a young cancer sufferer (terminal diagnosis) with his last wish of catching a 100 kg (220 pound) wild boar with his dogs. One day while hunting one of the highly trained dogs was chasing some pigs by scent and collided with a big buck kangaroo that then held and wrestled the dog by its protective gear (boars have tusks like knives), the owner was horrified that his dog or the kangaroo would get hurt and run in to save both parties. You can see the dog trying to escape, wanting nothing to do with the kangaroo. The big buck kangaroo releases the dog when the owner gets close but then moves in to try and attack the human. A kangaroo kick to the guts could easily disembowel the owner easily , so he backs off a couple of times giving the kangaroo some space but he eventually changes the roo's mind with a punch to the snout, as it kept coming forward. The punch stops the roo and makes him think about the situation, giving the owner and the dog time to disengage from the big wild animal and leaving it to hop off and I suppose wonder about what just happened. We laughed at the absurdity of the situation and at how unfortunate it was for the dog and kangaroo. Our 6 foot 7 inch friend felt no malice to the kangaroo but had to step in and fix a bad situation before it got worse. Young Kailem unfortunately lost his brave battle with cancer two days ago, so this hunt is part of the treasured memories his family and friends have. Hunting and harassing wildlife with a pack of hunting dogs forced this kangaroo to defend himself. The dog was not hurt, and Greg Tonkins should lose his job as an elephant handler in Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Australia for potentially injuring, and subjecting to slow agonizing death a kangaroo, which is animal cruelty and a criminal offense.
Letting loose uncontrolled hunting dogs among wildlife is irresponsible, and bizarre from an elephant handler who supposed to care for animals, and definitely not finding pleasure in hunting, injuring, and killing them.

Phil Jermakian the kangaroo tried to gut the dog one last time just before it got away. The dog was probably standing like that after many failed attempts to struggle free. The armour it was wearing kept it alive though.

+Phil Jermakian I said gut him, not constrict him to death. As he holds him in the headlock, he brings his rear claws up and rakes them down the dog's chest armour. This has nothing to do with "animals being smarter". We have him on film making the kill attempt. If he managed to reach a soft spot, the kangaroo would have simply opened the dog up like a can of chili. Smaller kangaroos are used to getting hunted and eaten by packs of wild dogs. They have no qualms about killing dogs when they can.

He didn't "run like a pussy". He stood his ground for a couple of moments, and realised that he was starting to get outnumbered. It's easy to grab a dog and gut it, but against 2 dogs and a group of humans, especially after one just punched you in the noise, which seemed to slightly disorient him, i'd be having second thoughts, too.

For all those animal activists out there. This dog was attacked by the kangaroo not the other way around the man comes and punches the kangaroo to rescue to dog. Kangaroos are very dangerous and you should not go near them. The can easily kill a human and have a technique to drown creatures buy shoving them into water and holding them down until they stop breathing.
This information is me and real experience while visiting Australia.

This was a very good way of handling the situation. Nobody got hurt, not even the kangaroo. It may have felt pain but it's not hurt. This could easily have ended with the kangaroo being shot, tasered, stabbed, peppersprayed or whatever depending on what people bring on hunts. One hook punch to the snout is really the best case scenario here.
As for the hunting; boars don't belong in Australia, they're harming the ecology and native animals and plants by their presence. There are much worse hunting practices and real animal abuse to invest time and effort in. Really.

They use their tail for balance and a spring-like action so they can get has much power into the kick as possible. In the slow motion part, you can the roo start of balance on his tail as he faces the guy, but wigs out after he gets punched.

As an Australian who spend my whole life being warned about how dangerous kangaroos are and what to do if you come across one in the wild, I can tell you that punch did nothing to the kangaroo other than stun it because it's probably use to people running away from it not towards it or punching it.
Kangaroos are strong and tough animals. They aren't called "boxing kangaroos" for nothing.
They have very sharp toe nails, and when they fight, they balance on their tails and stab you with those nails. Until you are dead because playing dead doesn't always work and they will continue attacking.
Just have to crouch down, protect your head as best as you can and hope for the best.
If you have no idea about kangaroos, don't comment your opinion because it makes you sound and look stupid.

When I was in high school there was a traveling carnival that set up in my home town. In it was a boxing kangaroo show. The guy who owned the kangaroo had a sign that said if anyone could defeat the kangaroo he'd give them $100. On to the ring walked one of my classmates who was a farmer and strong as an oz. He stood up against the kangaroo and slugged him in the nose. The kangaroo immediately turned around and wouldn't box him. The guy refused to give my classmate the $100. So, he went down to the police station and the chief came up and forced the guy to give him the $100.

What does it look at first like what was happening between the kangaroo and dog was consensual? The dog looked more embarrassed they got caught than worried. Looks to me like the guy was a bigoted thug harassing an interspecies couple. If dogs and kangaroos choose to date that's their business.

Male kangaroos fight to the death for mating rights in the wild. Their kicks are so powerful they crush bones and can kill their opponents. A punch from a human man is nothing compared to how they fight. The man stood his ground and delivered the punch as a warning, even though he had knife on him. Technically it is animal abuse but no matter what type of Australian animal rights worker see's this video, they will all agree that how he reacted in that situation was good.

Roos are no joke, they have claws that can rip up anything they kick. Dogs lucky to be alive & not disembowled. Prob the guy too if the Roo had connected. Ive never been to Australia but read plenty especially about the wildlife. Seems most things there are really dangerous. Really nasty snakes, spiders, box jellies & biggest great white sharks in the world.

Theres lots of dangerous stuff down here, If the roo got a good shot in it could have killed the dog, or even the bloke, but he played it well enough to daze the roo before it got close enough. not something most would do in a hurry though cos they can inflict some pretty nasty damage.

+potoum13 Yep, well the dog knows the kangaroo is a potential threat so instead of thrashing around it waited patiently for it's owner. I hate to think what would have happened if the owner hadn't come along, but then again, if they weren't out hunting, the dog wouldn't have ended up like that.

Yeah, and when a kangaroo squares up to you, the kangaroo is likely to come out on top. Punching it works the same as hitting a shark on it's snout, it forces it away from you.

Depends on the species of shark and when they last ate. So, in many ways, I'd rather encounter a shark than a male kangaroo that's trying to get his dick wet. Some people on here seriously need to grow a few more brain cells because this guy was just saving his dog if he was a cruel person he would have just shot the kangaroo, instead he took the kangaroos attention away from the dog and put it upon himself and still then did the most humane thing in striking the kangaroo and walking away. It saved the dogs life and the kangaroos life. Kangaroos are wild animals and have extremely strong bone structures for this exact reason to take hits from other kangaroos when fighting for mating wrights and territorial disputes. Seriously there is big game hunters killing endangered species for personal satisfaction and all people are concerned about is a guy saving his dog.

Well here's my take. Dogs hunt kangaroos; Kangaroos don't hunt dogs. If a dog was chasing me I would put it in a headlock as well. These Aussie guys let their dogs loose knowing they're gonna hunt animals (just for sport), so I'm with the Roo, not the guy. A swift kick to his balls would have made me feel a lot better. If this were a Court of Law, the Kangaroo would win 'Self Defence' hands down!
