Who will inherit the Carrick role? (self.reddevils)

Carrick has been invaluable for us this season but he's not getting any younger and won't be there for us forever. I thought Schneiderlin would take over that role but he looks unlikely at this point.

Anyone know of an up and coming player in the club or a possible signing that would fit the Carrick role in the future?

I'd genuinely love to see Blind given another chance at the holding mid role. His passing range, vision, and intelligence makes me think Blind could be a fair shout.

Blind, Blind, Blind & Blind. He's got the brain, he's got the vision and it's his preferred position. The only thing he might lack is the same composure. It'll be criminal if Carrick retires and he isn't given a shout.

Bear in mind he's only 26. He and Herrera could form a dominate for an age if they gel. We haven't had stability in that area for so long. We could be missing a great opportunity.

EDIT: As a footnote TFM should understudy Herrera, his speed and strength would more than make up for his lack of nounce, which will come with time, if he's given time.
