On Monday the 19th of December, the electoral college meets and will, barring a miracle, officially elect Donald Trump as president.
There have been rumblings about some electors defying their states' votes and refusing to vote for Trump. Actual faithless electors are pretty rare, in no small part because the electors are chosen by the winning party in each state, and so tend to be dedicated partisans. But 2016 is a bit different. Trump has two things working against him: (1) he is manifestly unfit for any kind of political office, and (2) there is a notion that he is "not a real Republican" that has substantial currency in certain Republican circles. Small circles, we can conclude given the results of November 8, but the notion is there nonetheless.
Christopher Suprun, Republican elector from Texas, has publicly declared that he will not vote for Trump. Two other electors pledged to Trump (Art Sisneros and Baoky Vu) have resigned because they could not in good conscience elect him president. Larry Lessig has suggested an incredible Trump 20 electors could refuse to vote for him.
So there's a strong possibility of faithless electors on Monday. But how many will there be, exactly? 1? 2? 5? 20? Or perhaps Chris Suprun will succumb to peer pressure and it'll be 0. Make your guesses here! Those who are most accurate will receive an exclusive MS Paint drawing of a trophy drawn by yours truly.
