It just seems like the voices for more tech have been getting louder and louder. Plus since United has been on the end of more than a few bad calls both for and against us I think it would be interesting to get the subs opinion.

Goal line technology works because it doesn't impede the flow and it deals with a black and white issue - whether the ball crossed the line. There is a clear, nondebatable matter-of-fact to this decision which has a huge impact on the game and doesn't impede flow so it makes sense.

But the fact is most decisions are down to the referee's interpretation of the rules in the context of the incident. It means there's a big grey area and instances where refs give 'the benefit of the doubt', have to make calls about a player's intentions as well as their actions or want to preserve the integrity of the match in some way. The idea of stopping to review the video doesn't really appeal to me because football isn't a stop-start game like other sports.

The only other thing I can see it working for is for disallowing goals scored from an offside position where the linesman has failed to catch it. That and perhaps violent conduct which has gone unnoticed but is very plain to see - the kind which is players are banned for retroactively these days.

I'm all for technology when it comes to decisions that are wrong. My problem is when there's a decision to be made we all view it on replays the pundits aren't always in agreement, watch SSN Ref Watch and Dermot Gallagher comes out with his shit and not everyone can agree. It can improve the game but at the same time it won't mean every decision is called right.

I just think whenever a ref has to think of making a pen call, he should do so. It's not like when the whistle is blown the pen is taken straight away anyway, and there's 9/10 controversial moments prior to the actual kick taking place.

Within all that time wasted, the ref could conclude with ease (Like in cricket) whether he's made the right call. If not? Drop ball. (at first sight that drop ball seems like a radical change, but generally if you think about it... a player has gone down and if it's legit then it's a pen but if not he has dived and therefore a freekick to the other team anyway).
