I'd like to see football become more of an audio-visual experience. Get rid of linesmen, 4th officials and those stupid referees near the goal-line and replace them with 1 video ref and an assortment of tools to inform people.

The common held fear with video-refs is that they slow down play but if we give them autonomy to voice their calls immediately I think it solves the problem. For example if they spot a handball they push a button and a loud hawk shriek-noise is played over the PA system. Over time people will come to associate the two and reactions to it will be second nature.

He would also be given a sideline-cam that tracks the play, when a player steps offside a loud buzzer noise echoes around the stadium and red lights flash on the pitch. This will remain until the player gets himself onside again. If the lights and noises continue as a goal is scored, it's obviously disallowed.

Some other ideas I have are to improve the understanding of the game from people up in the nosebleeds. For this I propose setting off yellow light fireworks for yellow cards and red light fireworks for red lights. I'm even open to the idea of setting off blue-light fireworks for a stern-telling off.

Lastly the fourth official's timeboard seems such an antiquated idea. In my audio-visual feast this will be done away with, and in it's place the video ref will have one again access to the PA system where he barks the number of minutes for said duration. For example; in the event of 4 minutes additional time being required the video ref will yell '4' down PA system at 1 second intervals for the full 4 minutes.

In time I think we can do away with actual on-pitch referees all together and give all responsibilities to the video ref. Though for the sake of tradition I propose the on-pitch referee position be continued with a rotation of celebrities, popstars, animals and politicians playing the now ceremonial role.
