Geez, what you posted makes the Gilded Age sound tame and nice in comparison.

Right? But isn't this what's happening? Just trying to figure all this out:)

I like the theory but the end state seems off. If the GOP is really for smaller government, I can't see them rebuilding these departments, effectively at all. They'll get stripped to nothing and then probably left to rot. And while the growth after the industrial revolution was staggering, it was directly dependent on manpower to operate. Businesses have been working to convert to automation ever since, and now they're pretty much there. We'll only see a growth in the wage gap and the size of unemployment, and how utterly ruined our environment and future generations will be.

So what is your take on our future as American workers? If the robots are taking our jobs (NOT the Immigrants as the Know-Nothing Trump Campaign promoted), how does one make a living? We're not all coding geniuses. SHOULD we all learn coding instead of manufacturing? Robotics? Westworld-style robot theme park design? Or just embrace a federally-funded yearly salary for all? Universal income?

Also: What do you think the draw to Trump is for inventors/captains of industry like Elon Musk and Bill Gates? Would LOVE to be a fly on the wall during their talks.

There's more than meets the eye to all of this - but Trump is throwing so many red-herrings all over the fuckin place it's difficult to get a handle on it all...

Unionize. Collective bargaining is going to be a must in industry and manufacturing, especially now while the favor is still on the workers' side. Trade schools are also critical and have been largely ignored the last few decades, especially with the growth of technology. Plus, robots, especially when they're more intricate, will still need physical maintenance.

Musk and Gates I'm not sure on. On one hand I think they saw what he did with Carrier and are trying to get in on it while they can (government contracts, tax cuts, looser restrictions). On the other, they might just see the writing on the wall and are doing what they can to save their businesses and give actual good advice to the White House regarding humanitarian and environmental issues. Though even after everything good both of them have done I still wouldn't implicitly trust them. I'm with you though, I'd love to observe those conversations.
