Back in the old days, it was perfectly acceptable and normal for a man to smack or beat up his wife/girlfriend if she was annoying/nagging him. It seems the only way to get a woman to shut up is to instill fear of physical harm from the man if she makes him angry.

I don't believe there is any other way to put women in line and make them be quiet and behave other than fear of a beat down.
