Last week, this girl and I gave the professor holiday cards, except I am a former student. Now the prof emailed this just to me: "I have a request for you, but I cannot discuss the background. Do you remember that a student left a Christmas card for me on the presentation tech desk? If yes, can you please send me a paragraph about that incidence. Please include whether I communicated with the student and whether I opened the card and read it and that the two of us then had a conversation about research related issues".
Why is he asking this? He did not communicate with the student. Is the issue with that student or me? We also discussed topics other than research related issues.
Edit: Also, why did he even show me the card that the student left on his desk? Was this on purpose? I didn't see the content when he flipped through it. It was homemade with some pages.
tl;dr: Received strange email from my former professor if I can confirm that he didn't open his current student's holiday card, and that we discussed research topics. I've known him for 3 years and he is trustful. I wonder if there is a deeper meaning?
