Mourinho purposely holding on to 1-0 leads (self.reddevils)

After all the mayhem of late goals in the past couple of games, it made me think if Jose is purposely holding on to 1-0 leads, and asking the players to defend in order to build their mentality.

If you take a look at Fergie's United, you could feel that we wouldn't concede a late goal. Throughout the Moyes and LVG regimes, that mentality has been slipping away from the players. Jose is building it back to give confidence to the players and the defense, so they can build it up for when we mount a serious title challenge (next year?). Thoughts?

This is the dumbest thing I've ever read. Mou always goes for 2-0 when he's aiming for the win, always. There's even a training video out there somewhere with him coaching players, lays out his plan says we breakthrough here and score it's 1-0 but we need the second to be safe, goes onto to explain how to get second goal boom 2-0 game over.

Heck he even talked about the second goal that didn't happen in the post match interview.

He goes for 1-0 wins only when he parks the bus and plays heavy counter attack where his team defends for most of the match. That Liverpool game for example.

You make sense in your point, because it would lead to confidence in the defence, seeing the way Jones, Rojo, Darmian reacted after Spurs game, but shit that's so risky if that's his thought process.

I think it's just us not finishing teams off before the 80th minute. You see in so many games (not just us) that are 1-0 with minutes to go the team winning always drops back more, even under Fergie.

Joses Chelsea 04-06 teams were notorious at defending them leads and you knew they'd hang on, I'd get if hes trying to replicate that with us but I'm 100% sure he'd take 2,3,4 etc goals from us and a late goal conceded if it means 3 points.

Less about 1-0 specifically, more about maintaining the clean sheet, imo.

You saw how intense Jones, Rojo and co. (Valencia always looks intense) were at the end of the game. Clean sheet feels so for Mou, the Defense, and De Gea.

Noooo....... What he's doing (trying) is what he did at Chelsea successfully.

  1. Play conservatively positive. Force the opponent into a mistake and be deadly when you get your chance, go up 1-0.
  2. Lie back, let the other team push forward then hit them with the counter, have 1-2-3 attackers forward that can take on opponents (our only one is Mhki), be clinical again go up 2-0 and that's game over.

The key in all of this is a defense that is 100% sound. If they sat back all day they would have a 0-0 draw no problems. We aren't there yet.

It's time to get back to a place of dominance. It's not nearly as easy as it use to be but we can get there with Mou and money. Might take 3 years but we'll get there.
