About this project


Our Mission

Here at Seed, we are dedicated to creating a full-dive virtual experience.  Based off the popular anime series Sword Art Online's Nerve Gear, full-dive takes the virtual reality aspect to a whole new level.  For those not familiar with full-dive, while wearing a VR headset in the comfort of your own home, you will enter a subconscious state in which your avatar is "living" inside of a virtual world online.  Originally imagined for gaming, here at Seed we see the amazing potential for full-dive technology, something that will change the world.


Imagine

Virtual shopping to see how clothes look on you before you purchase them.  Virtual building and interior decorating to really feel out your new home before you buy it.  Learn to play the piano from someone on the other side of the world and then put on a concert for your friends, record it, and then post it online.  Virtual classrooms that really give that hands on experience such as training for Doctors, Firemen, Engineers, all without the fear of consequence.  Spend time with your friends and family around the globe, or hold a surf tournament with 100ft waves, the possibilities are as endless as the imagination.

This technology will be something that every single person can use.  An elderly lady who is bed ridden can now visit places she never got to see.  Someone who lost their legs in an accident can now climb Mt. Everest.  A single mom with three kids can now enjoy the sunset in Paris.  A wealthy businessman, who seems to have everything in the world, can now experience things that even all the money in the world can't buy.  Every single person in the world has a dream, and here at Seed we are committed to giving everyone an opportunity to live that dream, even if it isn't possible in the world we live in today.

Components of the process

Brain-Machine Interface (BMI) and Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) are already being utilized for a number of things such as prosthetic limbs in which the neuronal activity recorded from the brain establishes direct communication with external actuators.  It has been successfully used in many cases in which people have become paralyzed due to an accident or illness, and has proven to be quite a remarkable by restoring feeling in robotic limbs.

VR headsets and peripheral equipment is already available on the market and developers have been working tirelessly in order to improve it and perfect it.  The problem with current VR is that they require movement, bulky equipment, and can be a hazard to the user.  Also, most VR technology is being designed specifically towards the gaming community.

Full-Dive Development

Seed development is divided into three phases.  The first phase merges current available technology from VR headsets and BMI/BCI to create a new and unique virtual experience, and one not specific to the gaming community.  While wearing a VR device, you will be able to enter and fully interact in a virtual environment simply by using your thoughts

Phase two will improve upon Phase one where we increase the integration between the current technology of VR and BMI/BCI and introduce all senses to the virtual world, being able to feel the environment around the user, and make them more immersed.  The user will still be in the comfort of their own home, and still be required to wear a VR device, but the experience will have much more depth to it.

The third phase is the most vital and the most difficult.  While the technology for the other two phases are existing, this one will have to be developed.  Phase three is the completion of our project in which we create our Full-Dive experience.  Users will be able to feel completely immersed within a virtual world, they will enter a slight hypnotic or unconscious state and "become" their avatar in a virtual world.  Users will be able to use a much smaller device as they will not need a VR headset to display the images or reproduce the sound, as it will all occur in the virtual world.


Timeline

Pending our funding:

Phase one is estimated to launch Q4 2018.

Phase two is estimated to launch Q4  2019-2021.

Phase three is estimated to launch Q4 2024-2025.

Risks and challenges

The technology for phase one and phase two is already available today. Since the two aren't usually associated with each other, one for gaming and the other for medical use, the development of their merge will take some time.

Advancing Seed in order to include all senses in phase two will take quite a bit of R&D as well as trial and error. Sight and sound is covered, and touch has already been utilized although it will take some work to get it up to speed, taste and smell has not been tested and will take time to incorporate it.

The third phase will prove to be by far the most challenging. While the first phase will be a simple merge and the second will be jump of improvements, the third phase is something that hasn't even been scratched. This is the biggest hurdle that we see here at Seed, but we are confident that in the coming years with the research and development of the first two phases, that we will be able to design and create our full-dive experience.

  • All members of Seed are/were coworkers of mine in the military. To give you a better understanding, please read the link near my bio (I am mentioned towards the end of the article). Unfortunately due to the nature and classification of our job, I cannot go much further into details and specifics.

    Although that may not be as reassuring as you want, please keep in mind that we all collectively have many years teaching and working with some of the most up to date technology that the NSA and U.S. Military has to offer, which puts us at a huge advantage over other companies who have never even seen or heard of some of the things we work with on a daily basis. Our team's dedication to bring this knowledge and work ethic into this project is completely unrivaled.
