A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Functional Prototype
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Appearance Prototype
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Design Prototype
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Production Prototype
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

These photos and videos provide a detailed look at this project’s development.
Many of the smart devices and appliances introduced to the market to date are expensive, proprietary, complex, geared toward engineers, have security or privacy issues, performance issues, or are difficult to maintain. Something needed to change.
Introducing, the qBiq: the future of the IoT genre.
Our team was determined to provide a better IoT device experience – one that is consumer-friendly, affordable and stylish, offers a broad range of uses around the home or office and has no baseline subscription fees of any kind. Our solution? We created qBiq, the Swiss Army Knife of IoT devices that anyone can easily use to internet-enable any object or space. You'll eventually always have one in your drawer - just in case. This is made for you - and for your kids, and for your grandmother.
The qBiq will change your world forever.
The qBiq is a Wi-Fi-enabled, one-inch cube that connects, monitors, and reports real-time data on any object, appliance, and living or office space to your smartphone or tablet. qBiq is more than a general-purpose Internet of Things (IoT) device; it’s an Internet of Everything device. Internet all the things!
The ideal energy efficiency real-time monitoring gadget, qBiq can internet-enable, gauge, and report on almost anything indoors or outdoors at your home, office, or commercial business. You can receive and monitor data on your mobile device using the freely available qBiq mobile application.
Each qBiq has a unique QR code and website address that collects and displays data, providing you with real-time information by the minute, hour, day, week, and month. Access and share the data online at your leisure. Furthermore, the data qBiq produces is accessible through open source technology (with appropriate permissions). That means developers can build mobile apps that use the data qBiq gathers for building inspirational new products.

Built with unique sensor-based technology, there are four qBiqs capable of measuring and monitoring different elements:
Temperature (qBiq Temp)
Humidity (qBiq Feel)
Light intensity (qBiq Glow)
Motion (qBiq Move)
The qBiq is designed as a platform to develop many, many future sensors. This is just a start.
Key Features of the qBiq include:
Wi-Fi-enabled, sensor-based IoT device that measures and records data
A precise one-inch cubic body
Real-time transfer and analysis of data
A lightweight, durable, stylish shell
Unique QR code and website address for each device
Open source functionality
Rechargeable battery via USB connection
More than six month battery life depending on use
Digitize your world with qBiq: the cost-effective Internet of Everything device.
Small, durable, rechargeable, and lightweight, qBiq transmits data on any object or expanse continually for more than six months depending on usage.
Operating system Compatibility: iOS, OS X, Android, and Windows
We have partnered with the world’s leading server-side Swift development platform, PerfectlySoft Inc., to provide developers with a new way to build apps using the Swift programming language and the Perfect development toolkit and framework.
This functionality gives iOS developers a radical new way to extend their apps beyond the iPhone to connect with IoT devices by configuring a qBiq to connect to and share data securely with a Perfect web server they’ve set up. All open sourced on GitHub!
Risks and challenges
Every new business venture or project contains elements of risk. The risks facing our project are similar to ones you would find in most hardware technology-based projects. We realize that one of the main concerns backers have is the ability for the business to overcome those challenges, minimize the risks involved, and deliver the product as promised and on time.
Our team of designers and engineers have a proven track record of successfully developing and producing hardware devices for more than two decades. Our team has worked hard to minimize risk in all aspects of this project. Having been down this road before, we are more than confident that we will see our campaign succeed with on-time delivery. We have detailed backup plans to deal with any possible problems that may arise throughout these final and crucial steps in the process.
Hardware Pre-Production Changes
There will be some minor adjustments and improvements to the qBiq before moving to the mass production phase of the product. Although our prototypes have been thoroughly tested for months, we also plan to complete a small pilot run following the completion of our Kickstarter campaign.
Component Lead Times
Component lead times are one of the greatest potential causes for delays in meeting delivery deadlines. In speaking with our component suppliers and our manufacturing partners, we are confident we will deliver to our backers by June, 2017. Due to the possible need for modifications to design after certification testing, we can only estimate on what the required lead times will be. We intend to secure adequate key components supplies as soon as possible.
Software Challenges
Our software has been tested on our prototypes. The most critical technical challenges have been overcome. However, when transforming code into production-grade software, further delays and issues may arise. Our team of engineers has created and developed many software programs and platforms over the course of their careers. Once our final software version has been tested on our pilot run units, and any bugs eliminated, we will implement the code into the production process and be ready for market.
Mass Production Challenges
Our mass production goals and plans are reliant on the availability of parts and components. We have chosen a world-class manufacturing partner which our team has worked with on projects in the past. Their experience in electronic design and manufacturing has led them to produce dozens of products, used by millions of people worldwide. Although we do not foresee any challenges arising at this stage, we do understand the unique challenges hardware manufacturing incurs. Thus, our team and our manufacturing partners have backup plans in place to avoid and mitigate any issues that may arise.
Regulatory Certifications and Testing
Although our engineers are very experienced and have assured us that our product should have no problem passing certification testing, they will be standing by with pre-assembled printed circuit boards, and are ready to modify the firmware and design as needed, to comply with and pass certification testing.
Fulfillment and Delivery
Sometimes things go off course, and delays occur due to any number of unplanned reasons: a supplier misses a deadline, a machine breaks down, or a shipment gets lost.
We have partnered with a nationwide distributor who has been distributing electronic products for over 25 years. If our distributor encounters delays, they have formed strategic alliances with third-party distributors throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe that are well equipped to supply the service needed to deliver our products on time successfully. If any other unforeseen circumstances arise, we plan to communicate these challenges to our backers immediately and inform them of our contingency plans.
A wise man once said, “True friendship is when you walk into someone’s house, and your mobile devices automatically connect to their Wi-Fi.” That’s the kind of connection we now share. By helping to fund the qBiq project purely out of love, you’re contributing to making our world a better place to live. You want to be part of the qBiq story - but you don't think you need an actual qBiq just yet.
