What the fuck does that even mean?

Don't ever play yourself. Know dat.

Know dat.

Don't separate yourself from fellow citizens because you feel offended. Don't produce an us-vs-them mentality by getting offended through something innocuous. Adults get over things and look past them.

Don't remove yourself from a debate by taking offense too easily. If you react in disgust to every opinion that significantly differs from yours, then it will be almost impossible to reasonably engage you. You will have effectively segregated yourself through offense, weakening your own position by protecting it from anything too different.

That fucking word--offended--is used like some kind of incantation on the internet, as though a person who doesn't want to argue with you must only feel that way because they're weak and fragile. But you, you, the shining city on that great hill called Logic, are entitled to have somebody play comment pong with you so you can use your Facts and Reason to wear them down. Then when they get tired of that conversation, you hurl a desperate cry of OFFENDED!!!!!! as their silhouette disappears over the crest of a distant hill.

It's so fucking tiresome, not to mention laughably presumptuous, to claim that people get tired of arguing with idiots because they're offended, and not because they realized they were arguing with an idiot.

"Climate change isn't real" ~ Lauren Southern too

She, like most of the 'offence culture' types, is a crazy right wing shill, but glad Reddit will upvote that I guess

She is our (Canada's) Ann Coulter.

Very ballsy putting up a notoriously controversial, but only in some circles, individual in /r/quotesporn.

your syntax is atrocious

I assume this means "dont get offended easily and ostracize yourself"? ... but there are a lot of things you could take this to mean. Even in the way i assume she meant it; its terrible advice: "don't stand up for something you feel because you might push spme people away"?... Not really that great of a quote, imho.

It's a drum people on Reddit love to bang. It's a way to dismiss a large section of the population's opinions because how dare they have emotions! People aren't inherently wrong because they're offended. There's nothing inherently wrong about being offended by someone saying offensive things.
In fact in my experience it's often the people that say these things that get offended most easily. They just don't admit it because being offended is what the other does.

Being offended doesn't inherently make one right either. It is possible to be offended by stupid nonsense. Sometimes people need to grow up and have tougher skin. Just because something bothers you doesn't mean you need to be coddled around a given subject for the rest of your life. It takes away from the serious things that might be real problems and makes a joke of them for being in the same category, offensive.

That could be read at least two ways, e.g., being offensive or being offended. A quick search shows she might be an interesting person.

She definitely meant "being offended".

So we should "go along to get along"? What a terrible piece of advice!

It's amazing how many people in the comments want her to be saying what they want her to be saying. She's saying don't remove yourself from a conversation by being overly offended by differing views.

That is very different from "go along to get along", and if you would have taken thirty seconds to look her up, you would have noticed she is a strong supporter of not going along to get along.

You've gotta admit the quote you selected can be read either way.

its an overly simplistic quote

This is a great quote. Taking offense at other people's words just shows everyone around you how reactive you are and how easily you let hot air that leaves other people's mouth mess with your mind. In a country where freedom of speech is such a big thing you would think people would develop some thick skin to go along with it...but I guess people just love being victimized

The sound of her voice makes me not want to listen to her.

How superficial.

Lauren Southern is great. Unfortunately, Reddit is filled with people who preach the very things that Lauren stands against, so this post probably won't be well received. Who cares about whether or not these idiots get what she's saying? She's right.
